Lee Valley Youth CC - Summer Series #1
James was CC Ashwell's only representative at the first event of the Lee Valley Youth CC Summer Series at Redbridge this morning. There were lots of riders across all categories today, though - many using the event as a dress rehearsal for next weekend's National Series event at the same venue.
The Under 10s race used the usual flat bottom circuit before a last-lap climb of the big hill, a short fast descent, and a final climb of the "Alpine section" to the finish line. James was riding in the lead group of ten riders which stayed together until this final lap climb.
He attacked hard at the bottom of the climb and opened a gap of about five seconds which he held all the way to the line. After a string of 2nd and 3rd place finishes this was his first road race win.
The day was made more memorable by meeting Magnus Backstedt - Paris-Roubaix winner and Tour de France stage winner.

P.S. Dan and Rebecca were racing in the U16 race in Welwyn colours just as we left. Rebecca had taken a tumble, cut her elbow and lost some skin - we wish her a speedy recovery.

Rebecca, as you said , had some cuts & scrapes & has bruised her left hand, but other than that is fine & so is the bike - phew.
Daniel put last week's crash behind him & got a well deserved 3rd place
And well done Daniel - a good boost, no doubt, for next weekend's event.
