The 'A10 Corridor Cycle Campaign' for a Royston-Cambridge Cycle Path/Route

edited February 2013 in General
As you may be aware via the local press, a campaign has recently been started for a recognised cycle route/path between Royston & Cambridge and particularly a proper cycle path between Royston & Melbourn.

This will be known as the 'A10 Corridor Cycle Campaign'

For further details and to see what's happened so, far please follow this link: http://susanvandeven.mycouncillor.org.uk/a10-corridor-cycle-campaign/ ....and then see 'A10 Corridor Cycle Campaign'

The second public meeting will take place at 7.30pm Tuesday 12 March 2013 Sheltered Housing Community Room, Elin Way, Meldreth, SG8 6LX

There is also an interim Royston Group meeting 7.30pm Wednesday February 27th 7.30pm

Tina has asked me the following:

.......Would any of your fellow club members from CC Ashwell be interested in coming along. I sometimes see them out in the Meldreth/Bassingbourn area and some of them may venture on to the A10? If they can't come to a meeting, do they have any thoughts about the A10 cycle corridor?.......

The more support from local cyclists the better, so please come along if time permits.

If you are unable to attend, taking time to write and email our local county and district councillors, as well as our respective MPs, would certainly help the cause.

John, sorry I could not make the meeting on the 18th of April. Can you let me know the details of the starting point on the 19th in Royston to Cambridge. Thanks, Richard.

Well done on some very good publicity for the campaign, Matt!

Our next group meeting is this Tuesday 7.30 - 9.00pm at Elin Way Sheltered Housing Community Room, Meldreth, SG8 6LX. Doors open for tea and biscuits at 7.00pm

I hope we get a good turnout both at Royston Railway Station from 10.00 am for a 10.30 am sharp off and at Trumpington from 9.30am for a 10.00 am sharp off and for the Awareness Ride next Sunday 19th May.

The campaign has some great support from SUSTRANS, local councillors and our MP for North East Hertfordshire, Oliver Heald.

Anyone of whatever age and ability who can ride a bike will be most welcome.
  • I will join the ride on Sunday. Will see if I can make the meeting tomorrow evening as well. Am keen to support this, as this year I have started cycling from Royston to work in Cambridge once a week, and the route certainly leaves a lot to be desired...
  • Great stuff, Tim

The Royston end of bike ride now on the Bike Week website - see:

    http://www.bikeweek.org.uk/event_search.php?pagemode=display&event_id=2241

Did you know that officers from SUSTRANS will be in this area 22 & 23 May 2013? I spoke to Nigel Brigham yesterday and he is receptive to considering any ideas in this area - not just Royston...... so do try to get along to the drop-in with all your suggestions!

I also note that for the first time Royston appears on the new 2013 SUSTRANS map, with a proposed route between NCR12 to NCR11. (Is this a possible proposed cycle between Cambridge and Sandy....?)

    Their email notification reads.......

We will also be out and about talking with people in Royston on 22nd May and are holding a drop-in consultation session at Coombes Community Centre between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday 22nd May for the wider public to have their say about the Connect2 scheme and the future of active travel in Royston. We will summarise the main points from this consultation session at the Stakeholder Meeting, but you are more than welcome to attend the Drop In consultation meeting as well as the Stakeholder Meeting and it would be fantastic if you could pass the details of the public session to your local contacts.

If you would like to find out more please contact Chris Bennett on chris.bennett@sustrans.org .uk or 0117 915 0490

I hope to see you there.

  • Interesting meeting last night - was quite impressed, the group is very motivated and well organised, with some clear objectives.

Fingers crossed for some dry weather for the awareness ride on Sunday...!
