Bike lost at Baldock CX race today

edited September 2013 in Club runs
This from the ECXL facebook site:

Did anyone see Dave Copland's spare bike today? We went to get it and it had gone. It's a black Alan cross bike with green front wheel and a davecopland decal

When we were taking the course down, I am fairly sure there was still an Alan bike (not sure re colour) in the pits. I think we all assumed that it belonged to someone on the clear up detail. Could someone who is local to Baldock go and have a look, just in case it's still there?

Alternatively, if you see a bike matching this desription, can you let either Susannah or Dave know, preferably via the ECXL facebook site?

Thanks a lot

John

  • John,

We checked before leaving. Dave reported it stolen to the police. Stevie and I drove round Letchworth and Baldock but couldn't see it. Could all of you who live in Letchworth, Hitchin and Baldock keep an eye out for it. It was a sad end to an event that had gone so well.

The reason Dave left it unattended in the pits was because he rushed off after his race to process the results. Then the youth and senior results came in so he forgot about his bike.

Without Dave and Susannah's hard work at each round and between the races the league events just wouldn't happen. They are one of the first to arrive and the last to leave at each event. Dave then makes sure the results are up on the website often before we get home. In the evening Susannah phones round all the riders who didn't hand their numbers back often as many as 10 calls.

I'm going to start a collection towards a new bike for him. I think a token contribution would at least show him how much league riders appreciate the amount of work he does. If any regulars would like to contribute then just give me something at the race next Sunday.

    Mark.
  • There are CCTV cameras there that might have captured it.?
  • Might also be worth keeping a eye on eBay incase thief try's to sell it?
  • Thats a real shame on an otherwise faultless day. A collection is a very good gesture.

I also saw a bike and a bag in the pits area when we were packing up and assumed it was one of ours. Not sure if this was the bike in question.
  • I've emailed Trisports to ask them to look out for it. I've included it in the report for the BC website.

I don't think the CCTV cameras will cover the field but I will check. There are holes in the fence along the road and against the woods at the end so it would have been easy for someone to nip in and out again.
  • Will keep an eye out for the missing Alan. A sad conclusion to an otherwise great day.
  • I didnt really take much notice, but there were several dog walkers and a couple of lads milling about when i did a last ride round looking for stakes.
