Looks like I'm gonna join you for the first few miles, turn round and head back at some point, might bring a couple of guests if that's allowed? Haven't got time for the full monty this year...
Approx 93 miles AshwellWells, assuming @ just under 17mph av [this was our average in 2011, with Bob], plus 45 minutes for pit stops and puncture tax, means arrival to the coast at 2:15pm. Assuming our 8am start. Note, sunrise is 7:42am.
Whatever happens to get us there earlier or later, we should look to leave Wells by 3:15pm latest, to steadily tick off the 30 miles to King's Lynn in under two hours, if we want to comfortably make the 5:37pm train back. We should make this our intended train. Sunset is 5:46pm.
Note, the trains are hourly. Some might want to dawdle in the Fenman pub or similar for the 6:37pm [or 7:37pm!]. And I suppose the rail staff could get funny about the amount of bikes on one train if we all pile on the 5:37pm. There is no FCC policy about a maximum number of bikes per train though.
Will, maybe stay with us longer and train it back? It's approx 40 miles to Ely, 55 miles to Downham Market, or about 80 if you cut out Wells and peel to King's Lynn.
Will book the day off but got to be certain so more Kylie please.
It could be interesting as I have only ridden 40 minute rides since the summer.
There will be no sprinting for signs for me.
Just found my old saddle bag and managed to get the little rack thingy to fit on the boardman. Might even be able to squeeze a little Belgian style picnic in there..
Tim, that looks more capacious than the set-up I had for the Belgium run to the 6 day. Wouldn't trust myself with that. I need to work on minimalism but usually bring everything and spares just in case. Have a good ride to Wells.
My work colleague Robert Bumstead would like to be added to the list please.
Robert is a CCA member but not on the forum.
Some of you will know Robert from the Wednesday evening TT's.

Let's see what the turnout is like on the day, but if the group gets really large, we will split into two groups for the few sections that are on on tighter, busier roads. Basically, we'll be sure to be safe and courteous all the way.
Long range weather forecast remains OK at the moment; not too cold, showers... and a strong tailwind to Wells [which does mean a slight head/cross wind for the final bit to King's Lynn. You can't have it all!.]
Haven't quite decided what to do yet, but as I have to be back in Letchworth late afternoon to get into London I'll either turn round at 50 miles or miss out in a few stops and plough on through, not hanging around to get to wells earlier. I hope this doesn't annoy anybody! Would love to do the whole lot at a sociable pace, but work constraints etc etc
Cool. Or... Stash the trumpet and gig clobber in Left Luggage at KingsX the night before. Do the whole flippin bit the next day - you'd have to give it a bit of welly for the 4:37pm train - and have an Italian Shower on the train. Arriving London 7.45ish?
Whatever happens - it'd be good to have you on board. Cat 3s take the front yeh? ;-)

The 5:37pm train gets to;
Royston 6:46pm
Ashwell 6:51pm
Baldock 6:56pm
Letchworth 6:59pm
etc

Fingers crossed for a bit of nice weather.

I'll be condensing everything I need for the ride into just the one hip flask.
:>
I will endeavour to bring enough produce for at least a little bit each... you did say there were no hills?
Assuming weather is set reasonably fair I am looking forward to joining what sounds like an epic ride.
