Hi, what bike shops do members use in and around the area and other than Letchworth Trisports does our membership get us a discount at any other shop?
Thanks
There are a few general bike shops around like Pauls in Hitchin and Ben Hayward in Cambridge, but for high end and racing stuff you have to travel a bit, probably Corleys in MK is nearest after Trisports.
Our 10% only extends to Trisports, however if you join BC which we strongly recommend all members do (and most have), you get 10% at Halfords. (i might me wrong but i think its the whole store too) and 12% off the BC Wiggle store.
Yes, BC membership gives you 10% off anything sold by Halfords, which can make BC membership very good value for this benefit alone.
Unfortunately the process has changed so you now have to print out a discount voucher and visit the store to buy in person to present the voucher along with your BC membership card - you can no longer pay online and get the benefit of the BC discount (although you can still reserve online and get the benefit of web-only deals).
N.B. If my experience is anything to go by, you should be prepared to explain the process, the voucher, the membership card, what British Cycling is, etc., etc., and basically stand your ground to obtain the due discount.
Kinetic are looking to have a launch on the 24th with the manufacturers reps in attendance and a preview of 2014 bikes. There will also be a few deals according to the owner who i spoke to today. The date of the launch to be confirmed on his website and social media, he is also considering a 10% discount to Ashwell cycling club members....nice guy
Hi guys, thanks for all the great feedback from all the ashwellians (is that right?). My partner Emma and I have worked hard to get the shop up and running and hopefully we'll see even more of you through.
We're really keen to help local clubs so yes, of course, we'll be offering a club discount but coupled with that if there is an event you guys feel could benefit from some tech support or you simply need a place to grab a coffee and de-frost during a club ride we'll be there to help you out.
As Pete says we have a 2014 launch evening on the 24th October from 6pm till late. We'll be showcasing lots of swanky kit, will have our staff on hand to discuss kit options, bike fittings and physical therapy. there will also be lots of offers and incentives running too.
We have a Facebook page and event up and running to give a vague idea of numbers, but overall, all are welcome. - www.facebook.com/kineticcycleswelwyn and twitter @kineticbicycles
Look forward to seeing you guys through our Hitchin and Welwyn stores soon
Good to meet you this morning Jon and thanks for your time in talking through the winter bike options - Genesis could be the way forward! Already booked a session for physio and training! Good luck with the launch evening this Thursday and hopefully see you there.
I nipped in to Kinetic yesterday morning for a look around.
Quite a big stock of bikes there already, including some high-end models. Castelli, Pearl Izumi and Endura clothing ... Specialized saddles ... good selection of shoes etc. Staff were very welcoming. They're keen to attract new customers, build up stock levels etc ... plans for an espresso bar as well, so this might be a nice spot for a club ride to take a quick break and ruminate on all things bike?
Sounds like they'd offer 10% discount to any member of CCA, but I don't think this has been formally arranged with the club yet?
club ride break sounds like a good plan!! or could somehow make it part of the route instead of the last 10 miles? (not sure how that could work just an idea
I can second that they are very welcoming in there. Plenty of bikes that you can take out and test for a day or so before you buy.
Re potential club run venue, there is an outside courtyard area which they intend to have for bike parking with tables and chairs to have coffee. This isn't in place just yet.
They seem to want to offer something different. For example, I've been using the on-site sports physio who is excellent in my opinion. This is in the dedicated treatment studio. He will also offer training advice alongside Specialised bike fit in a separate studio. For those inclined the same physio and partner will be starting evening Pilates and yoga classes in a nearby Hitchin venue, to include food afterwards and chance to meet with fellow class attendees afterwards. They are reaching out to local sports clubs, to include other sports in addition to cyclists.
The owner Jon says he's to sponsor the Gosling stadium round of the women's national omnium series for the next few years and I saw that Kinetic were present at the Welwyn round of the cyclo cross, so supporting local cycling.
I agree, I had a session with the sports physio on Friday and felt the difference straight away. He's also given me some on-going exercises to improve my flexibility and core strength. Well worth a visit. Also the little shop at Priory Marina has always given me 10% off as an Ashwell cyclist.

Stock levels are building up with new 2014 bikes arriving, including a fluorescent yellow carbon Cippolini....as in yer face as the man himself! if you want to hire a bike for a few days they need photo ID and a credit card for security. The espresso bar will most probably be open in the new year with tables outside planned and there is another building next to the courtyard with plenty of space for bike storage. Owner is keen to engage with local clubs, not sure who can make the 10% discount offer official from CCA?
Does anyone know if they sell TT Aero Helmets in there? Was going to order one online next month for xmas, but would must prefer going to local shop and trying them on!
If they are prepared to offer a 10 % discount to CCA members that would be much appreciated. Not sure how they want to police this though? We don't issue membership cards. If they want to discuss best thing would be an email to info@ccashwell.com and we can discuss.
Byercycles in Clifton are closing after 30 years of trading. Expected last day is the Saturday before Christmas. Stock Clearance was under way when I visited today.

Great for friendly advice and makes a decent cuppa, mention my name and he will do you a deal, usually if he hasn't got it he will get it in for you.
