Saturday 4th April 9.30am forward/reverse club rides

edited April 2014 in Club runs
Lets go for another well known route to perfect the forward/reverse run strategy

http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/baldock-eng/ashwell-tempsford-cardington-langford-as-route-48857064

Ashwell-Tempsford-Cardington-Langford-Ashwell - club

Ashwell-Langford-Cardington-Tempsford-Ashwell - club+

So a sort of classic 2 bridges in a forward/reverse direction. The club run will go down Everton hill and the club run+ up it !!

See you tomorrow

  • So you'll be on club + then?

    See you in the morning

    Peter
  • Not unless I can attach a tow rope to Tom and Nathan !!
  • Not out today on the plus run as it's my birthday and I am being treated to breakfast out. Back next week, certainly older, possibility no wiser but ready to sprint with Tom again. Have a great ride.
  • The whole business of being off the bike since June (with the club) is really telling.
Okay in the first third, then I suffer.
The last 1/3rd I am in bad shape, going backwards has no up-sides.

I am right in saying that people are in better condition this year, compared to 2013? Faster & fitter?
Is that because this time a year ago it was still icy winter or am I missing something?
  • Another cracking ride today which can best be described as 'brisk'. Pretty much stuck to the route above which is remarkable as it was the wrong way round so I was navigating in reverse !! Strangely we didn't see the club run plus group, but this is because they went 'off piste' and headed off on the unknown roads around Haynes...

Good pace setting by Gino and Tim back from Langford launched Chris for a long attempt at sprint glory, but was to be denied - thanks for the lead out though ;)

Final stats were 38 miles @ 17avg. Great stuff !

p.s. Yes Tim we are all fitter and faster!
  • Plus ride was more plus plus... Strong riding, I left at Northfields where there was talk of a 22mph chain gang for the last 4miles to finish. Not sure how it finished up but great morning out
  • I clocked 68m at 17.2 but I would of thought club run would of been quicker over 40m
  • Another great club run plus.10 riders. We didn't deviate too much from David's route just added the hill past RSPB after coming up Everton hill, and maybe the odd lane towards Haynes! Highlight has to be steaming down Cardington hill with a tailwind! Six of us made a good start at chain ganging down Northfields into headwind (a work in progress I think it's fair to say!). It took its toll, there was no attempt at a sprint!!
40 miles at 18.3. Great fun as always. Thanks all.
  • Thanks Tom and all, a good group out today.
You were right about the headwind on Northfields.
  • Happy birthday Pete2. Did you arrive second at the breakfast venue?!

    John
  • bit harsh

... but very funny. Happy birthday Pete
  • Did you take 2 attempts to blow out the candles Pete, or did the kids beat you to it?!
  • stop it
  • Hahaha thanks john, thanks jane.....cruel but correct as I stood no chance against the kids but wouldn't if I was half my age I think. Another birthday ticked off and hoping I don't become Pete3!!! See you soon
