Olympic Velodrome 24th May EQUIPMENT HIRE

edited April 2014 in General
Hi, please advise if you need to hire a bike and/or shoes for the track session at the Olympic Velodrome Sat 24th May using the doodle polls below.

Below is their guide to bike sizing. And please read their comments on pedals/cleats below to see if you need to hire shoes - you can bring your own shoes/cleats but not your own pedals. They use LOOK KEO pedals.
Bike hire costs £10 per person, and shoe hire £6 per person. You can also hire helmets though I assume everyone will bring their own.

Shoes: You can wear normal trainers for track sessions or if you wish to bring your own cleats we use Look Keo pedals so Look Keo cleats can be worn. Please note that other makes are not necessarily compatible – even if they say that they are. You may not bring your own pedals for use on our hire bikes.

Stef - who should I contact to organise picking Henry up?
  • Thanks Andrew - will email you
  • What time should we plan on being there - is aiming for 9am ok or do we need to be there before that to sort out bikes etc?
  • I'd aim to be kitted up and inside the track 15 minutes early to sort out bikes etc

sorted my payment online Stef. sorry but put velodrome but no surname. I'm driving down so have space for another bike and a couple of riders if you want.
  • As a last minute gatecrasher, what do I need to do in terms of payment/booking etc?

I have Keo cleats on my shoes so just the bike for me. Road bike size 58ish.
  • Great that you can make it! Ive added you to the list above, so £34 to pay as per the instructions. Im sure it wont be too much hassle getting another bike. Maybe aim to get there a bit earlier, say 8.30.
  • Hi John
£34 for the session and bike hire,
either transfer money (detail above) or bring on the day
  • Brilliant!

I will bring cash on the day.
  • Hi guys, I'm not able to make it tomorrow. so my "novice" space is available to anyone who wants it. Really sorry for the very late notice
    Lee
  • Is it just me or is everyone else getting totally STOKED about this...! I can't believe I'm actually going to be riding in the OLYMPIC VELODROME...!

Typical scene from work this week:
Random colleague: Are you doing anything interesting over the bank holiday Tim?
Me: Nah, just a bit of cycling as usual
Random colleague: Oh, what route have you got lined up?
Me: I'M RIDING THE OLYMPIC VELODROME!!!!!

and repeat until no more victims (I mean colleagues)...

    Doing anything nice this w/e?
Yeah, I'm going to the Olympic Velodrome
Oh that'll be good ... saw some of that in the Olympics ... who are you going with?
With Cycle Club Ashwell - my club
Oh really ... OMG Jane ... you're not going just to look at it are you - you're going to RIDE IT!
Yep (exit stage left with just a hint of a grin)
  • Now hoping I won't be limping in to work on Tuesday morning with friction burns up both arms!

    Where is everyone parking????????????????
  • Just got in from a ride and have injured my back, really sorry that this is last minute but won't be able to ride. Could my place be given to someone else? Thanks, Cam
  • Is there a reserves list? If not could I take his place?
  • Got a wicked cough, but coming anyway.
I'll wheeze around, defiantly not wiz around
  • Tom - you can have Cam's space no problem
Do you need a bike or are you bringing your own?
  • Things to remember.... helmet, shoes, bike (unless you are hiring), gloves, kit- shorts/jersey and something to pull on to keep warm when you are not riding
water bottle, energy bar/snack, money, camera. think thats it.

parking...i was sort of hoping there was parking there - anyone who's been before know anything about parking?

cant wait to walk through the doors and see the track, and then ride it of course!
  • There is virtually no car parking on site

    They recommend using Westfield
  • That's great news thanks Stef but really unfortunate for Cam at the same time.
I'll be bringing my own just hope it conforms with all of the regulations.
    What time do we start?
  • OMG TomT on his own bike tearing up the Olympic Velodrome ... Essex girls will be going wild in the stands
  • track is booked 9 a.m till 12
recommend getting there 8:30/8:45 to be ready in time

yes - bad luck Cam, hope your back improves
  • I have space...anyone want a lift....ring mobile......07985 096231
  • They have a car park FOC but limited, I'm guessing around 60 spaces plus a long lay by along the front of car park. We have been lucky every time we have been down.
