Saturday 7th June 9.30am club ride

edited June 2014 in Club runs
OK, late posting again due to the met offices warning of biblical flooding/plauge of locusts/rain of blood etc....

So as I see if we have 3 options

1. go west for a bit of a new route to west to Marston Moretaine/Stewartby area (48 miles so a touch longer than normal)

Ashwell-Marston Moretaine-Cotton End-Southhill-Ashwell

2. or as its supposedly better the further east you go, do a route over towards Clavering

3. Give up cycling as a bad job tomorrow as its a silly idea in a thunderstorm, and just join the hippies at Strawberry fair in Cambridge http://www.strawberry-fair.org.uk/ :-)

  • As long as we start in the dry, I'm game!!!! East or West is fine! Is it 9.00 or 9.30?
  • 9.30 at the Tuns.

Let's hope the forecast in wrong......
  • 40 miles in the wet was the easy part - getting out of the hot shower much harder! Thanks all, a memorable ride Olly
  • Well done to those that braved the conditions. Here's hoping that tomorrow is a little friendlier!!
  • Think we should have gone for option 3 and joined the hippies !!

7 of us out this morning all deciding that to go east would be the best option. Was looking good until the clouds caught up with us and then whoosh a small lake fell out of the sky!

A slight rejig of the route meant that we cycled through the storm and out the other side probably looking like 6 drowned rats by this point ( Alan had pealed off earlier to do a short pre-Dragon ride)

A split at Therfield and at Odsey meant that I was the lone survivor that made it back to Ashwell. No idea what the final stats were as my bike computer gave up the ghost somewhere near Hare Street :)

Can we have some sunshine for next week please !!
  • I think I've just about dried out.... Thanks for a good route David, looking forward to doing it on a dry day!
