  • are you not joining the group ride already arranged for the same day leaving at 0800hrs from the 3Ts ?
  • Hi Kevin
Thanks for pointing this out. Still making my mind up.
I think the location posted will be busy as in the press as a good place to go.
May opt for a less we'll know place without the crowds.
The peloton will be fast wherever you are.

So keep an eye out. Will post if decide an alternative, if not may see you at 8am

    Cheers
    James
  • Looks like tour leaves 12.25 Cambridge
Average speed expected 30 mph over the route
    So saffron at about 13.00
The convoy leaves 2 hours before
So leave at 09.00 from Ashwell ? seems long enough standing around to me.
Still more work on best spot
Touch base with those who have expressed interest, just a heads up

Think I may be able to join you
  • Think there is a hill (incline) on the way into Saffron Walden.
Think I will be coming with you.
Location near food/drink/pub seems like a good move.
    Adam

    FD
  • Already said I will be coming
Shaun, please book a seat at your table
Anyone got a lock I can share?
    See you Monday.
    Adam
  • Adam
I have a lock you can share
  • Has anyone else noticed that the official TdF website and official programme have different timings for stage 3?

Website says arrives Saffron Walden at 12.50pm, programme says 12.25pm!

Caravan to come through 2 hours before. Still plenty of time, given carbo loading session at 1pm!

    @failingdutchman and @AdamR - I have booked a table for four.

    One place available folks!
  • Yeap does appear to be different times
But we will be there 10.45 ish so plenty of time either way
Table booked to allow for later time
Huge crowds today, hence the spot should be slightly away from this but near a carb load station
    My last post before Monday
    Do get there before 9am

    Cheers
    James
  • Thanks Shaun
  • Ahoy shipmates
Crew of12 set sail into the sunshine.
Great spot just north of littlebury, good view, good company.
    Burger and carb loading followed
Burger bit slow coming so extra carb loading
Please post the videos & photos on the web, sure a techy will know how
Highlight was the chorus of "what shall we do with a drunken sailor" on the way back
Great day, thanks for your company and good humour

    James
  • Good company, thanks for slowing down for me!
  • You're welcome James, glad you enjoyed it.

The intention is that we all stick together and nobody gets left behind or I'm a Dutchman...er, ....

.....there's nothing quite so dispiriting as seeing the rest of the group charge off into the distance, leaving you to fend on your own.....that's why we ride as a group.

    See you again soon.

    John
  • Hi to all

Thanks for a great day everyone. Just looking at the highlights of today's stage on TV!

    Rupert
  • Just spotted us all on ITV4
Break away in saffron, breaks to peloton with a green tractor on the left, we are on the right.
    Mr Adams centre stage
    We where there !

    James
  • PS apologies to FD
hope it did not spoil it
  • Thanks to everyone - great ride - great company, and the burger was not bad and good value for money, I have had more repeats than the BBC
Well worth the 180 mile round trip.
    See you all mid -August
  • Thanks everyone for a great day , good sprint into baldock
    Still suffering from indigestion !!
  • A great day out in good company. The world's greatest cycle race on our doorstep. Magic.

Not spoilt by jammed rear derailleur and shipped chain on the newly sprayed tar and loose chippings road in Therfield.

The 5 mile chase off the Sandon escarpment will have no doubt done me some good!

  • Thanks to all for yesterday - I had such a great day - lovely company - and remarkably found my children alive and fending quite well for themselves when I got back. Thanks so much James B for organising, leading the group so well, knowing the route thoroughly and for the sea shanty singing. Loved the sprint back.
