Club run review - Sunday 9th November

9 of us in the Club Run went to do 'Two Bridges'. Good sunshine - but irritatingly breezy. Nice to see newish lad Stefan in the pack. It's Autumn - so there was a respectful lack of sprint finish. It's about huddling up and getting through. 35 miles at 16mph.

No sign of the middle group - that looked suspiciously Nasty... About 10 set out there going Whitwell way, with the promise of a 17mph 45 miles with an optional 10 more for the needy. There was no sign of them as we left Andy's....

Today was a good advert for pre-planning the rides - like the Saturday posse successfully do. A suggested ride on the Wednesday - once weather forecasts are able to be made?

  • middle ride all completed 57 miles at a steady start against the wind and a gentlespeed up towards the second half with some nice wind assisted sections. Watton at Stone - Datchworth-Welwyn-Ayot st Lawrence-Codicote Bottom-Kimpton-Whitwell-Lilly bottom-Hexton Cross-then back through Henlow-Clifton-Langford water tower-Hinxworth and Home.....17.5mph and thanks to Carmelo for a good ride.
One mechanical..me with broken bottle cage...one impact puncture...me again......two mechanicals down Hexton Cross..trahern and ME again hit a nasty pothole and both our handlebars had to be readjusted after...good job we both had a firm grip as we would have been off..understand that Richard Law did just that recently in a race and came off the worse with body and bike damage...get well soon Richard.......Tony was still getting his form back after the virus and decided to ride on ahead of us at this last..we think he took a wrong turn 'cos we didn't pass him when we got going.....did you make it back o.k. Tony??.anyone seen him since?? We did stop for a minutes silence near Bernard Shaws house at 11am.so all in all an eventful and pleasant ride.
  • Hello Geoff. Got back ok. Limped the shortest way back to Baldock, very slowly. I am going to stay off the bike for a while until I can sort this out. Have a great ride tomorrow.
  • That's great to know Tony...hope you get it sorted soon.....why not just ride with Bob for a few weeks on the shorter ride or even go out on the Sat. morning ride...It is very well attended and they are a good bunch..some should be moving up to the Sunday ride really, but the time suits them and they like the company...same for all in the clubreally.....The saturday ride is a great opportunity to experience a GOOD club ride and perfect if you have lost form and want to get back into riding a bit easier than on Sunday.
