After reading Martin's post Re: sunrise and the weather, any sense in starting an hour later? Having checked, it will be -1 at 08:00, rising with Sun above freezing to a whopping 3/4???
I'm ok on time, appreciate not everyone is though, thoughts?
Looking at the weather it's bright but cold. Hoping it won't rain today so that the roads are safe. Please keep looking at the forum Skelders has made a good point. Safety first. If it rains then we may start at 9am. If it snows then we're in my shed! lol
I'm keen to join for some of the advertised route and pull off early back to Royston. I reckon we'll be ok with the weather, there's no rain forecast and the roads don't seem too wet, what's the worst that could happen...?
But seriously, safety first and hope to see you in the morning.
Well I set off in good time for a careful ride to Ashwell but by the time i got towards Litlington my path was blocked by a very slippery looking stretch of road. Discretion being the greater part of valour I decided to stick to the grippier roads and headed off for a short spin up Ermine street and back (thanks Romans!).
Beautiful sunrise this morning but untreated roads are dangerous, -3 on the GPS but it should be better for the later ride.
Same here. Decided to head out a little later and stick to some main roads over towards Woburn and then back round to the mordens by which time the sun had thawed most of the roads out. Beautiful morning!
3 out this morning harming was saying -4.9 in Hinxworth!!! Cold toes. The decision was made to stick bigger roads early till Duxford. After we were back on lanes which were still very sketchy. Skelders had the recovery of the when front wheel tucked under him. At that point I was thinking don't run over him but he stayed up. Robbie was not so lucky a bit later but picked his spot on the verge. Coffee stop in Buntingford and then home mentally tired from the concentration.
Hats off to you - a triumph over adversity. I went out in the afternoon and foolishly gained enough confidence to go into the lanes. Had an off descending down Clothall Common. Residual ice on a corner. Thankfully being dressed up like Michelin man helped cushion the fall and I didn't put a hole in my nice new Pearl Izumi jacket.
Just reinforces my view of staying off the roads when there's ice.
Big work out on the abs today... being stiffened and worked by tentative riding on me fixed. Glorious sunshine and scenery for most of it. Didn't wanna stop! More next week... but hoping not so icy. Cheers chaps.
