Saturday 17th Jan 9.30am club ride - NOW 10am !!

edited January 2015 in Club runs
After last weeks gales, looking bloomin' freezing this week. Think we should do the same as Robbie and update on the day........

We can do a roll-call of Baldock/Ashwell/Henlow/Royston/Bassingbourn/Dane End weather to decide where/if to go !

  • Hope to be there if there's a ride.
Will check back in the morning.
  • I have 2 degrees at 9 ... Rock and Roll.... Can do later if folk would rather go out at 10??
  • Good plan - let's aim for 10am.

Still a forcast for snow/sleet at 9am so will confirm in the morning.

    Fingers crossed........
  • If the roads are too icy I'm going to go out mountain biking around Royston - more than happy for anyone to join me.

See how it pans out tomorrow morning...
  • Can't believe I'm the first one up.
BBC weather app says loading light snow between 8 and 9. But going outside, I'm not Michael Fish, it's cold and clear, so on.
What time? 9.30 is okay. But need to know by 8.30
  • A few of us from Royston have decided to go off road today, ride safe if you do go out on the roads.
  • Tim,
What time r u going out in Royston and where r u meeting?
  • ok let's meet at 10am unless it starts to sleet/snow between now and then.....
  • Roger that!

Been down road to drop my lad off (no euphemism) and roads are ok
  • Heading out at 9am from my house, can meet you somewhere if you like, so near the Fire Station, planning to head up to Therfield to start with...
  • See you at 10!
  • See you there
  • Update...
    Light snow in Henlow
Anyone would think weather forecasters know what they are talking about...
Will keep a eye on here. Still think it's okay to go atm.
  • snowing in Langford
  • Aiming for 10am now, as backside not quite in gear enough for 9am
  • Light snow in Ashwell.. Not settling should still be OK for 10
  • light snow in Steeple
  • Another turbo session for me , be nice to see you all soon, take care if your out
  • Snow stopped in Henlow.
    On my way shortly
  • snow finished in Steeple and not settled
should be ok for B roads :)
  • On my way
  • That was good!
What looked like being a bit of a dicey morning for bikes turned out to be a good ride (and just the workout I needed)
    Thanks all
  • Enjoyed that!

Good turnout on a pretty dam cold day - still at least it stopped snowing before we sent off !!

We all started on Susan's 25 miler, but decide to split into two groups at Wrestlingworth. After that it was just a random jaunt out toward Gransden and back again using all the biggest gritted roads we could find. Here is in on a map (I think!)

No idea how, but we crossed paths with the other group in Gransden - one of us was clearly doing the wrong route ;)

By mile 30 I'd lost of the feeling in my lower limbs, so I let the others trundle down from Hinxworth for a winterised sprint, and I rolled in a couple of mins later.

So 33miles at 16 and a temp no higher than 1 degrees according to Janes's garmin. Thanks all for a good morning and big thanks to Jane and Jez for their sterling work on the front for most of the ride !
