Sunday looks the best of it again
Dry with Cold north easterly forecast so Cambridge bound
Flat route, 40 miles at 16 mph
Should be pleasant with a righteous feeling
Great to be out again but clearly the wheels weren't turning as fast as they did before. Can't blame leaves on the track either. Made it back although half an hour late, but that's British Rail for you. Hopefully will generate a bit more pressure in the boiler over the next few weeks.
James, Henry and Gordon in the sidings
But the crew set forth building a head of steam
Barringtonhouse, Barton with Bertie the bus
40 miles at 16 mph ish
Thomas made a showing
John arrived when all was done
James - He thinks himself superior to the others, and can be shallow, boastful, and vain, particularly to those who appear old-fashioned, weak, slow, or dirty.
Thomas -he had a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler and a short stumpy dome. He was a fussy little engine, always pulling coaches about. He was cheeky, too.
Gordon The Big Engine is hard working and strong, and performs his express duties to the absolute best of his ability. He is also the fastest engine. He is sometimes teased by other engines, particularly the smaller ones, and has been known to have a good-natured rivalry with fellow main line engines Henry the Green Engine and James the Red Engine. Nevertheless, he is also quick to forgive and sometimes gives advice and assistance to other engines. He also has a ready wit.
Not sure this blog bears much resemblence to the ride on Sunday. Anyway it was most enjoyable.
Felt great. Though unfortunately got home and within 4 hours developed an horrendous cold. Laid up in bed today.
Anyway Thanks for a really enjoyable steady ride and great banter. I now know stuff about computer programming, experienced a Valentine's Day in a lay by with six blokes and had and enjoyable chat with James about how to get John off the booze and back on his bike.
Steve glad you made it back ok.
These threads never bear any resemblance to the Sunday ride!
Been going out on the bike, but not necessarily at 9.30am Sundays. Fitting in rides around a hectic workload. Missed you last weekend, as I set off for a ride from Hitchin, rather than from Ashwell. Bumped into James, Tony and Steve? as I was passing through Ashwell and they were returning. Overtook someone else from the club in Steeple, but it wasn't you.
Get off the booze? Highly unlikely, but will be less of the 'winter warmers' as the season progresses!
Ahh I wasn't clear about the aliasGTBE. Glad to hear you are back on your bike. Yes time has flown by since Nice. I miss the routine of washing the kit, eating, sleeping, fuelling up and riding again. Skelder's excellent film brought it all back.

See you then

Steadily getting steamed
On track to blow a gasket
Maybe too coaled and wet for Gordon tomorrow
Come on baby light my fire
Mind the Doors!
Jim (The Red Engine)
Nothing dry about him
Will FD become the Fat Controller FC ?
Sounds on track to do so
Come and let off some steam
Will make your paint work gleam
Dry all morning, so will make a change for some

And I ride on the footplate, there and back again
In the cutting, through the tunnel,
Rushing, clanking, on the track;
Wheezing pistons, smoking funnels,
Turning wheels go clickety-clack:
Toot toot!
Lord Belborough
Full steam ahead
What's yours called ?
TTE
No full steam ahead, another hour in bed.
A day for idling in the sidings with my lovely valentine 0-6-0 Mavis

Once fully steamed up, went out for a solo mid-morning jaunt
Hitchin Willian Baldock Ashwell Steeple Wrestlingworth Eyeworth Dunton Edworth Langford Henlow Hitchin
32 miles @ 16mph. Chugging along like a tank engine on the way out, flying like an express on the way back.
Good to see the puffed out older engines at Ashwell junction. Looked in need of a refit.

Murdock and billy are the correct orange colour
Size of Murdock and good looks of billy perhaps ?
Thomas cheeky, wise and youthful

Not with that description anyway
Seen James though

Whereas Gordon's description couldn't be more apt....as well as being a real tonic.
