RTTC Classic Series rounds 1 & 2
First 2 rounds of this national TT event have only been a week apart.
The first one was last week on local roads at Finchingfield (blue egg country) and was a 25.6 mile course over typical rolling Essex countryside.
3 riders from CCA took part with James Mc making the right decision to withdraw due to illness.
In the vets Mark Constable came in with 1.08.03 and Richard Glover got 1.16.57. This gave them 12th and 20th respectively on actual time.
Jackie Field came in with 1.05.56 which placed her 7th woman overall and 1st in the womens vet competition which she is defending this year. The top 10 was dominated by the pro team Podium Ambition but Jackie beat 2 of them and was less than 50 seconds behind another 3 of them. Sadly when cycling weekly reported all this they did not even mention the vet womens competition which is a shame when that age group makes up over a third of the field.
The stand out performance of the day was by Movistar rider Alex Dowsett riding on home roads. He did the course in just over 51 mins at average speed of just under 30mph
Round 2 was on Good Friday on the mountain TT course at Buxton. 2 laps of a hilly course starting and finishing at the village of Longnor at just over 22 miles
James and Jackie travelled up for this one and fortunately despite very poor weather the day before it turned out fine and dry although a bit windy.
Still recovering from illness James had a good ride and got 12th place on target time.
Happy to report that Jackie was 1st vet women beating her nearest rivals by over a minute and 9th overall women again beating some of the pros.
