Outlaw Iron Man Triathlon

edited August 2010 in General
I completed the Outlaw Iron Man Triathlon (2.4m swim, 112m bike, 26.2m run) on Sunday in 13hrs 30mins 39secs. This was my first Ironman distance race and my success in ompleting it is in no small way thanks to the help and encouragement I have received from all at CCA.
Having been a long distance runner for nearly 40 years I decided at 60 years of age that I needed a new challenge. Ironman triathlon seemed to fit the bill, after all I could run, anyone can ride a bike and all I had to do was learn to swim.
When I came to CCA a year ago you guys soon showed me that I may be able to ride a bike but I sure couln't race one. Well thanks to all your patience and help I managed the 112 undulating miles in 6hrs 26mins 49sec, which may not exactl;y be speeding by you cyclists standard but I was well pleased with an average speed of 17.4 for 112miles, especially when you know you still have a marathon to run and you have just swam 2.4 miles.
So a big thank you to all at CCA, when I get my legs back I will be back for some Wed and Sun rides (to fit around my shifts).
Steff, if was great to see (and hear) you supporting at the Outlaw, tempted to a new challenge?

  • Bravo Geoff, what an achievement!
  • bloomin heck geoff.....that's some feat.....no way could I run a marathon or swim 2.4 miles and that ride averaging 17.4 is very respectable...but to do them one after the other, that's scary..... but also heartening, since I reach that magic age next year.....hope springs eternal........chapeau
  • Top effort mate! Very impressive.
  • Well done Geoff, have you booked your next one yet? You will!! We always look back and think, now if I train properly next time I could easily shave more time off. Then begins your real Ironman journey! Great stuff.

Maybe Geoff G could enter one as part of his 60th celebrations!
  • sadly Jim..no go for me given prognosis on knee......I'm just happy to be back cycling reasonably well again....I'll be content to watch somewhat enviously the likes of you/robbie and geoff
  • Thanks for that Jim, your right looking at possibilities for next year. looks like we might have to wait another year for Geoffg to join us.
  • Well done Geoff...can only imagine the focus and effort required...great to see this level of commitment from one of our more 'mature' riders..very inspiring for a 'younger' one like me to see what can be achieved!!

    see you on the road...
