Beds Road CC Reliability Rides 2017, 5th and 19th Feb

edited January 2017 in General
When is a race not a race? When it's a pretend race...

I've just noticed the always well attended BRCC reliability rides have been announced. Starting from their HQ in Cardington. More details to follow.

Sun 5th Feb. Provisional 59 miles route here; https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12029012
There's a shorter 44m option too.

Sun 19th Feb is a longer 70 mile route.

Good atmosphere, friendly competition, some different lanes to ride, great training, soup and refreshments at BRCC clubhouse. And a chance to test yourself against the local clubs. I'll try to do the 5th Feb one. It'd be great to ride as a CCA team and try and keep up with, or even be part of, the front peloton...

  • How much pretence is there though really?

    Top laugh whatever.
  • ****blatant thread-hijack for advert alert**** ........and for anyone wanting to keep their eye in between the two Beds Road rides theres always the SNCC Reliability Ride on Sunday 12th - stneotscyclingclub.info/

  • I wouldn't rely on that route as there are extended road-works due to take place shortly in the Great Barford area.
  • nothing on their website yet re confirmed route- will need week to work out how to load the thing on to my Garmin!
  • Just got this through BRCC facebook...

    BRCC Reliability Ride - 5th Feb 17
Due to a road closure on the Barford Road between Willington and Great Barford, I have changed the routes. New routes below:
    48.6 Miles = https://www.strava.com/routes/7494141
    63.6 Miles = https://www.strava.com/routes/7494154

Am still hoping to do the 63.6 miler on Sunday 5th then. Good test of fitness: whatever the goal for 2017. And a good laugh.
  • Right now just need to work out how to put that on Garmin
  • i've only bloody gone and done it...
  • Sunday...

    I've recreated the route into a Garmin format. I think you can download it here if not possible from Strava for your Garmin model;

Here's the timetable. But note: every time, there has been a disregard for anything like an official start, and things can just go off whenever. So I'll be getting there early as I'd like to ride with any kind of front group in the 18+mph riders and hopefully stick with it. If it all goes wrong: am up for a CCA chaingang on this. See you all there.

    08:00 - Open & Setup
    08:30 - 15 mph groups depart
    09:00 - 15 - 18 mph groups
    09:30 - 18+ mph groups
    12:00 - Soup & Rolls
    15:00 – Finish
  • Cant make this one but I'll be at the SNCC reliability ride and looking for a similar hard 100k ride if anyone's around
  • Good effort by CC Ashwell this morning. 170 turned up. Good considering the rubbish weather. I was with Vince, MC, Steve J and JMac.

Eager not to miss the boat, we jumped on what we thought was the fast group. Turned out it was a large St Neots CC group, doing the shorter version, with the 'fast group' yet to set off behind us.

I punctured early on, and big thanks as everyone stopped to help. And Vince even managed some CO2 cartridge comedy too. We cracked on, on our own, soon passing the SNCC group - who had also punctured!

Eager to maintain our 'breakaway' from the fast group behind, we turned up the gas. Eventually, JMac and Vince backed off a little while MC, Steve and I pushed on in TTT mode. We indeed kept the fast group away and rolled in, a bit toasted, at 20.1mph av. Packet soup ahoy and a good catch up with other clubs.

Always a winner the BRCC reliability rides. Give them a go as tests of form, or more simply, keenly ridden rides with other clubs. Next week: St Neots CC, and CC Luton are running their reliability rides. BRCC are doing their second ones in Feb too.

  • Vince looks like he had a great time.
  • That photo of me was photoshopped. I had just rolled in and was cooked, half baked, pasted, spat out and left for dead, past the place of no return. Timbuctooo knackered to appreciate a cup of soup and comments like " we've been back about half an hour". Well I did ask I suppose.
And I rode better than last year.
  • I've always had a grumpy face. Even when I a man feeling grumpy
