Saturday 20th May 9.30am club ride

Was going to suggest a reverse of the excellent 'new roads' ride we did a couple of weeks ago, but recon the roads around Watton/Sacome might be a bit gritty/flinty after the last couple of days, so might postpone that till next week.

So how about either Stewartby

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/727420041 (or something similar to this !)

Ashwell-Haynes-Maulden-Ampthill-Stewartby-Old Warden-Broom-langford-Ashwell (50miles)

or the slightly less in distance flat n'fast Yelling route

Ashwell-Everton-Yelling-Waresly-Potton-Edworth-Ashwell (41 miles)

Decide in the morning, see you then

  • Paul (No.1 son) coming out for a short/easy ride in the morning. Hope to do Rhubarb for a pre-ride caffeine boost.

David N, I didn't put 2&2 together when you said your son David was joining us. Good to see another Royston Runner out!

Thanks DavidJ & everyone else. Tough going towards the end but really enjoyable.

    Relive the fun below:

Another good turnout this morning for a ride out west. All set off together to Hinxworth where the shorter ride left us to head up north. The rest of us headed westerwards & towards an increasingly leaden sky. Bit of cloud gazing lead to the snap decision at Ampthill to cut out the Stewartby bit and head back east towards Haynes & tack on the loop around Cardington instead.

One of the little black clouds we had skilfully been avoiding had clearly being having fun as the roads around Northhill were soaked, but luckily he had moved on somewhere else when we got there. Just so we didn't cross his path, we headed out towards Broom & back in the way we came. Almost got the sign sprint too, but Tim was just a bit too quick......

So 51 miles @ 17.5 & no rain :) Thanks all for a good ride, enjoyed that !
  • Very enjoyable ride yesterday. Good rain dodging.
  • Five of us left David's ride for a shorter 30 mile ride. We did the same route as last week.
David and Paul dropped off after Croydon to get home early, leaving Martin W, myself and Peter from Letchworth for a 5 mile headwind TT back to Ashwell. Martin did sterling work on the front and bought me a coffee back at Rhubarb!
Cheers chaps for a good ride
