garmin 235 expensive but faultless battery lasts a long time very much a dedicated running watch though, doesn't do much more than being a (very, very good) running watch
i would champion the Fenix - I have the 3 sapphire (without in-built HR) and its great if you're into loads of different activities. It also has basic smart watch functionality so notifications and can control music etc. Battery is also really good.
Thanks all, ended up with the Garmin Vivoactive 3. So far so good, although it does feel like it's spying on me with so many features, especially when i'm sitting at my desk for too long and it tells me to "MOVE" ! Creepy.

I found the Fenix 5 too bulky for everyday use so just sold it on eBay.
I continue to use the Vivosport but more for tracking long walks than for everyday use.
