Grasstrack stone clearing SATURDAY 18th June 2.00pm
CCA Grass Track off Smallgains Lane Ashwell....Stone Picking
A Big Plea to ALL Riders, Parents and Youth......I need your help please before the rains!!!! and rolling to Pick up the loose stones on our grass track area.
It is really simple..No Raking..No dust...simply bring a bucket and walk the track and pick up all the loose stones you can see.
We need to roll the track to smooth the ridges and lumps but the ground is rock hard and ideal at present for stone picking.
There aren't a vast amount, but the more who can help the quicker it gets done.
I have mown the entire field including the TENNIS CLUB'S area.....I have chain harrowed to pull up loose surface stones so all we need now is to clear the key areas and pray for rain to encourage the grass to grow....we need to seed some barer patches, but without rain there is no point
PLEASE TRY and COME

'Many hands make light work'
I'd bring Theo, but he's only got one operation hand, so won't be much use. Indeed! Anyone who HASN'T got a broken collar bone should be there.
Daniel
...is that supposed to be 'Uncle Geoff' ...?
This is a CCA Facility so help us make it the best.
Seriously this is a job worth doing; there are stones in our track and they need to be moved. Many hands make light work.
What is your impression of the track?
Daniel
Sorry to bang on about this.....Do come and have a look.......With your help we will be able to have an opening race this September and should be able to open the track and surrounding cyclo-cross and BMX & MB areas.
Daniel
We have now de-stoned a Quarter of the track zone....more help please...let me know please
Claire, Rosanna, Alfie, Theo, Geoff and I did a good job on Saturday afternoon and managed an impressive work rate of 75m^2 per person-hour. The track we have is substantial and we can look forward to racing on 4700m^2 of quality turf. This will be no fun if we are constantly getting punctures, so pulling out these sharp stones is crucial. As Geoff says above we've done about 25%; if Geoff does the rest on his own it will take him a week and a half fulltime (with one hour for lunch).
Is that fair?
However, if more contribute the job will be done quicker. So if 10 people got down there for 2.5 hours on two days we'd have covered the whole track. It's got to be done. Not doing so will mean cut tyres and cut limbs; we don't want that.
So please make an appointment to be at your grass track this Saturday at 14:00.
I wonder if everyone has seen the track yet? Once you have you will imediately realise the potential we have. It is inspiring. Help make this facility a reality for our club, the village, the area and for cycling.

Martin...can you please put the MAP/directions on again as some don't know it's location....cheers

Simply go past the caravan park, and the Grass Track is shortly after, on your right, where the tennis courts are [the field is shared with Ashwell Tennis Club]
Here's the map you were referring to - though the cemetery start point no longer valid.
