New Year Training Camp - Portugal

edited September 2011 in General
as per James' suggestion from Spanish blog, I am up for it. I would be looking at a long weekend in early Feb and/or Easter.

Any takers?

destinations will be one of - Spain, Portugal or Majorca. have checked slag jet prices and at the moment are mostly under £100. I know good training rides in both Portugal & Spain (now!) and also have contacts in portugal with a local club. In Majorca i have a mate who has a large villa to rent so positives in all destinations.

  • skelders

That sounds right up my street put my name down as a possible.
hope leigh is ok !! did we jinx it by talking of road rash at the tuns.

    strappy.
  • bless her, she lost it on a steep upward corner, she was in a lot of pain... her left pedal cracked right into her shin. swelled up like a cricket ball instantly!! fortunately there was a friendly Spanish chappie on hand with ice and a phone for a cab!! he offered to look after our bikes while we went to the wedding - his words - 'don't worry, you can trust me!' errrr thanks for that matey but I think I'll pass

    :-O
  • I'm a definite maybe.....
  • ouch !!! the shin is the worst place to wack with a pedal hopping around with a few choice words i bet.
no tennis for a bit then, tell her all the best from maria & myself.
    see you later.
    strappy.
  • Thanks Strappy, I'll pass that on.

so the required villa is getting bigger already! Any LEJOG'ers interested as a warm session before the fixed extravaganzer??? Robbie, you know it makes sense ;-)

flights for the mentioned destinations are between £65 & £85 in early Feb plus £30 for a bag & £50 for your bike. So at the moment worst case £160 plus some transfers call it worst, worst case £200 if booked sooner rather than later. then accomodation, then finally food & beer tokens.

I'll ask my mate re: Majorca what he would charge and investigate options for Spain & Portugal. usually, the bigger the villa the cheaper it becomes :-)

OK, for those who fancy a long weekend (4 nights) in the Algarve, in a luxury Villa, with great cycling check this out -

flights: February - either Weds 8th - Sun 12th or Weds 22nd - Sun 26th . either easy jet or ryan air (preference is easy jet as no one likes Ryan Air!) and it will be £180

    accomodation examples:
    - http://www.dcvillas.co.uk/details/3/Casa_Oleandro/#prop - total cost = £648 (if we want the pool heated thats a bit extra as is aircon)
    - http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p822766 - total cost £550

    plus car hire??

I recon we can do all that within £300 per head ??

does that fit into people's budgets?

I have enquired for more villas so will let you know as they come back to me. and i am basing the costs split evenly between 8

obviously the more people will bring the accomodation cost down!
  • update - 3 definates & 3 maybes

  • Hi all, I am a maybe at the moment - depends really the date as I am short of leave at work at the moment! If it falls over a (LUCKY) weekend then great!
