two punctures on way over to Ashwell - thought I'd found the cause of the problem : clearly not! Was a fantastic day, really missed going out. Still, I had fun sorting through the half dozen or so older tubes and fixing them (or binning as appropri…

You know it's been a wet ride when you can pour water out of your socks and gloves when you get home
-
So there could be a chance to have a headwind all the way around?
-
awesome! I want to try the wall of death now
-
Photos of the event available here
-
Thanks for organising Tim; I've uploaded the photos here
-
I got home with 87 and a round 18mph average - though the last 12 miles were undertaken by an empty shell who could not manage more than about 15mph. Got home to: "..are you having a laugh, we expected you back 2 hours ago!" Cheers - great ride!
-
Seems like someone has already tried it: there's a chap in the US who's stage show uses lightning and he gets his wife to ride around in the middle of the storm.
-
Thanks for the great event - really well organised and a super turnout. Looking down the list there are some good times and just a few seconds here and there between places; it is was pretty close in the end.
-
Is it too late for me to enter; going to see how the shoulder holds out?
-
Hi chris - drop me an email on ejon at inunui dot net and we'll sort out transferring the entry
-
Hi Chris, hopefully we'll catch up tomorrow and exchange details - then I'll contact the organiser (see Phil's email above)
-
I can't make the event any more - have to travel for work.
Anyone interested in picking up my entry? -
big respect - awesome ride

4 of us broke away over Barrington (well actually we chased after Trahern) eventually he turned off home and left Phil, Steve and myself; I think Steve's legs gave out quite soon but Phil and I pressed on - eventually I was broken at Gilden and Phil …

I'll be there, looks like a few others too.

Legs gave out and hit the wall at about 60 miles - that'll teach me to bring 1litre of drink for 5 hours of ride. Plodded home, thanks Trahern for sticking with me through Bourn. Still managed over 80 miles, which is the furthest I've been on the fix…

plenty of punctured tubes, but I think that 8 foot lengths of planks might make the stand a bit too tall for me! [also with my woodwork skills I'm more likely to create more punctures from all the splinters]

We did two bridges, but perhaps now it should be called "2 and a half bridges" as we all had to carry bikes over fences on the Tempsford road just before Blunham as the small bridge there was closed for repair.
I took it easy today, firs… -
just signed up for the Gran Fondo - ulp!
Always good to have an objective for training -
Count me down for entering this year - be nice to visit the hills where I grew up.
Is there going to be a CCA team entry? -
Gore Oxygen GT - very lightweight and totally waterproof; bit of a snug fit though..
-
Hope you don't have to deal with Wheelies like I have to :-(
-
Good ride today, though a little "blowy". Ended up with 49 miles for the ride - not sure if I believe my phones gps which suggested a maximum speed of 57mph!
-
great ride today, ended up with about 70 miles on the clock by the time I got home - legs were shot! liked to magical mystery tour and the fairly even rotation - though James stint at the front lasted all of 100 yards at the end...
-
Gutted for you, going to the garage door and seeing it smashed open was very distressing for me and the finding they'd taken my bikes just made me bloody annoyed. I hope they catch the people responsible - I'm still working out what to do
-
just rubbing salt into the wounds...
-
Great ride.
Getting a puncture at 35mph downhill at Barrington on a fixed was proper scary.
Off to the land of the rising sun for a week or so, good luck to all on the hillclimb next week
Jon -
Will be there on the fixed; missus says I have to be back by 11! Apparently the hot weather warrants a picnic with the family
-
great ride Chris - thanks for being so tolerant on the long downhills... hamster speed legs not arrived yet
I most enjoyed the way Essex council mock the poor relatives in Herts by putting down the most perfect tarmac roads - made me wis…
