Not sure what riders are up to...

but it's hill training for me this Saturday for a couple of hours doing the 'M' then doing a 30 miler.
This year is hilly for me : Mow Cop. Alps. Norwegian mountains. Helvellyn.
Better start doing some!

I'll join you Robbie. Keep on pedalling.
    I think I'll bring a Brolly!
  • Its Groundhog day then
    see you at 8.30
  • Chris from Freedom tri might be joining us for the hills. Some of you have ridden with him before.
  • The weather is looking pretty grim (heavy rain) for tomorrow's racing so I may well join you guys.
  • 5 out this morning intent on mauling the Royston ridge.

Got to the bottom of Royston heath very wet and getting colder by the minute so decided to bin it for the day.

Took note of the prevailing wind headed home for a hot bath.

Not one for the all time best cycling experiences of my life..

We marched on and climbed and climbed. Harsh weather made it tougher to repeatedly descend and ascend on wet muddy road. Quite a few hours later and we had climbed the middle hill and Sandon hill 15/16/17 times. About 50m clocked. Martin's maths equate it to climbing Alp d'Huez without the hairpins! Phil went on for a warm down 20m or so. Later bumped into Pete in Trisports both buying new brake blocks for the fixed having completely wore them down. Tough one but a good one.
  • Chaps... we only needed to climb the middle hill 13 times to 'climb Alpe d'Huez'. Ah well. Sorry about the maths. Website says the middle hill is 275ft - and Alpe d'Huez is 3,600ft. Think of it as doing a bit of the Telegraphe too or something?! I have a total 4,600ft climbing, 53 miles.

Respect to Robbie and Pete to be on their fixies/fixeds. Pete - if you do have the Garmin stats - I'd like to know them. For future Marmotte training!

Phil, of course, did an extra climb. And lapped me twice.

A word on the Club's yellow waterproofs: they're excellent for terrible conditions. Recommended. Do Endura do waterproof gloves though?! Freezing!

Martin, have emailed you my Garmin file, but here it is.
    I measure 283ft.
  • Martin, twas my legs that got soaked. Any top tips for keeping areas cosy?
  • club's thermal bib-longs are waterproof and warm James...wear a pair of cycling undergarments as the pad is minimal...as to gloves...I would like a recommendation from anyone who has solved this...waterproofs are simply NOT...whether seal/endura..they don't do warm and windproof and waterproof it seems....that would get my undying loyalty to any manufacturer
  • Good question James. Sadly, unlike the waterproof jacket, the official CCA leg warmers suffered under extreme duress. Within half an hour they were so waterlogged that gravity and out of seat climbing brought on the 'Nora Batty effect'. I had to hoik them up all ride.
  • must have been extreme Greg!!!!!....under less harsh conditions they are fine.
  • geoff - my solution is to carry a 'spare pair' of gloves.....i know it doesn't "solve" the problem but it does give a bit of respite!!
