Sunday 27 March - 9am group

edited March 2011 in Club runs
Carmello lead a small group of me, Daniel, Strappy, Iain F, Peter G and from the Youth Team Theo, John and Cameron on a great route via Potton, Gransdens, Caxton(?), Barton, Duxford (good climb out), Elmdon, Buntingford and Sandon. A cheeky little breeze kept us on our toes; with the sun squeezing through twothirds into the ride gave us a respectable 67miles (avg +17???) with no punctures and only Theo’s rear skewer as a technical.

yes a big thanks to carmello & Iain for doing a hugh turn on the front in to the wind (most of the way infact) the wind was quite chilly as the youth team found out as they were only wearing track mitts but it soon warmed up as the sun came out.
a very nice route with a few hills it was nice not to get dropped for a change i am getting quicker or was carmello going easy on us the latter i think, got home with 86 mile on the clock very nice .
    see you all next week

  • I concur with the above comments a fine ride and some compensation for being forced to miss The Cheshire Cat.
Theo's skewer problem is in fact a problem with the interface between the rear drop out and the shoulder is engages with on the rear axle on the non drive side. Older designs feature a 'kurled' feature to increase friction; however this design is plain. I suspect these Miche hubs will work find in vertical drop outs but as he is using horizontal there is simply not enough friction to stop the wheel from being pulled out of place by the chain tension. His race wheels don't have the 'knurled' feature on the non drive side either, but the diameter of the shoulder is slightly larger and this is enough to keep the wheel aligned to the frame.
