pass the pills round...been trying to shake this thing off for weeks.....just came back this week with a vengeance...ticked off muchly.......have a good one
decent westerly wind. could head west to woburn/brickhills and then ride the wind home... having said that i am on pain of death for an early return, mothers day lunch, so may not make the full distance anyway. is it 08:00 or 08:30?
8 or 9 out today enjoying the fine spring weather. We headed out into the wind and Langford on a Martin special taking in one of the bitchin Brickhill's followed by some lumpy bits and a pit stop at a visitor centre in a forest somewhere. On to Sundon hill and finally turned home with a bit of a tail wind.
Outside RAF Henlow something happened....
I think Skelders picked up an air traffic control broadcast on his diamond super computer advising the BBC Countryfile helicopter was en route to Ashwell to film a feature on some kind of local feel good story involving organic veg and spring lambs. At this point the peleton which was already moving at some speed accelerated significantly. Robbie seemed in a rush and moved up the outside of the pace line to take the speed up a couple of pips.
At this point i called Scottie in the engine room and asked for more power but there was nothing available. Currently searching for an external hyperdrive unit for future events of this magnitude.
Got home with 78 miles on the clock and an average speed of 17.6mph which included 10 miles of dawdling along admiring the daffodils and blossom.
Thanks for a great ride chaps. Hope you made in back in time!
It was good to meet up at the Three Tuns. I hope that location sticks.
Me, James, Skelders, Robbie, Chris, Nathaniel, Dom - trying us out, Phil K, Phil A, Andy H and Stef jumped on for a bit: have a good hol.
Great weather. Spirits high: a medium/fast frame of mind.
Robbie suffered a torn tyre - but Skelders' old boot patch held it firm. Essential things in the saddle bag.
Stockgrove Park visitor centre makes for a good refueling stop.
Yep: we rocketed back from Barton le Clay. I rued not having Skelders last week on the front of the Cheshire Cat - might have pushed our average into Gold...
Group eventually splintered on top of Langford hill. Chris bagged the sprint and bought me a pint at the 3T's - cheers. Hope to see you Tuesday eve. Dom seems keen to join.
Always after a good saturday outing i find myself in trisports with an excuse to buy something.... boot patch.
Funny thing. Met Skelders there and replaced his with the last one in the shop. Cheers ears. (And top tip Martin!)
Thanks for a great ride chaps. Magnificent route Martin. The hills at Brickhill and Sundon were a real leg sapper and i was well chuffed to get up these in one piece. I must admit i had to give it everything i had to hold on to the group from Stondon. The pace was pretty hot from there all the way through Langford and then up the hill where i finally gave out!!!
Skelders was definitely on a mission in the last 10 miles and with Robbie also towing the group along at full tilt it was tough going. Really enjoyed the ride and the banter. All in all this was the toughest ride of my year so far but i enjoyed every minute!!! Roll on the summer.

Was hoping to get a 70 plus mile ride in this week so earlier would be better for me if we can get more miles in but happy to go with agreeable time.
It ain't half hot though!
or do a loop that swings back thro ashwell at half eight
Check out my new helmet;
you will be fine-insane no- we can always back off, but everyone will look after you, or more likely, me!

Moral of the story is - do not leave Skelders at a check point mid sportif. He will make you pay for it!
can we start tomorrow?
