Case of stay in the front third of the field, dont do too much work, get in the winning break, if their is one. Oh and win the sprint ....simples :-)

Yes see you later at the agm, for liquid training.
  • Quick update

    Good news: Jez finished 4th
not so good news: Crash near the end (~300m from line), Tim H bust his shoulder (gone to hospital). Carmelo, Trahern and I also involved in same crash. Cant remember if Phil was or wasn't involved but came back to help out (well done that man)

Better news,: All the bikes escaped unscathed I think, ready to be ridden another day :-)

    Lee
  • oops, forgot to add, Jason puntured 1 1/2 laps in, had a picnic and then rode round course to finish the race (then promptly got lost on way back to HQ!!
  • Sorry I didn't make it out today guys, been feeling a little under the weather the last few days. Hope all you guys involved in the crash are ok and well done Jez. Looking good for the primavera?!!!!
  • that's horrific for Tim.........was going so well.hope he mends fast....how are the others?????......well done Jez.....looks like a good one to have missed DaveC.....

Horrific a little strong. Just wee tumble and a rather sore shoulder. A big thanks to the team for sorting out bike, getting car keys and phone from the car.

Phil you went the extra mile, and did things beyond the call of duty. Racing my bed to xray was fun, we overtook severl other patients. I,m sure we took 1st, no BC points though. Your face when the nurse pulled of my sweaty shorts and then dropped them in your lap was priceless. Then the wee bottle, i will say no more.....

Congratulation Jez another result you'll be cat2 by end of the year, keep it up. Great rides from everyone else just a shame that we didnt all stay upright.

Nothing broken just popped arm out of joint, nice chaps gave it a tug and its back in now.... got to have check up wednesday. If anyone knows how to gaffer tape a shoulder to stop it poping out in the tt events i am riding this coming weekend then please let me now sooooon :-

    haha:-)
  • ouch mate

    hope you ok

just shows the spirit within the club we got going on

    RESPECT to Phil

and lest we forget.. Get In there JEZZZZ!
  • too right chris, think he will do really well
  • take care Big Man ( Hector)
  • Tim, best wishes and a speedy recovery from us both. Glad nothing is broken. Daniel and Theo
  • Tim, my wife recently had a series of shoulder dislocations, and have got photos of her strapping by physio to stop it popping out when we were skiing... but i probably shouldnt put those up on the forum!
but yes can help with some strapping techniques if you need them.

hope you not too sore and others are all ok.
  • mate, all the best, hope its all ok!
  • great to hear you haven't broken anything.....must be bl**dy sore........well done to all.....why did nurse need to remove shorts when you hurt shoulder:-)???...more importantly why was Phil there to take them from nursy!!!!!???????clearly more to tell here...on second thoughts perhaps we don't want to know;-)
  • Hope you recover soon Tim. Good news it's not broken.
  • Hi Stef strapay pics would br great. I will whisper mail. Thanks
  • Strapping pics on your email.
Given i'm sending photos of my wife to you thought this was appropriate:
    nudge nudge
    Good luck with the recover
  • Good to hear nothing serious Tim, big up to Phil the paramedic, ambulance driver, hospital porter, bike rider etc.
Jezz has an air of stealth about him. he just ghosted up to the front at the right time and whooo 4th place, nice one.

Here's my thoughts on the race.

The day started off quite well. field of 80 riders about 3/4 cat 3's. 7 CCAs (Dave C couldn't make it). 6 mile neutral zone. Stop to re-group at bottom of hill (Start) and then off we go. It was a bit damp to start with but soon dried off, especially when the brisk SW wind came and joined the party. The condition of the road was actually quite good, compared to some, but the roads were narrow. The pace at the start wasn't particularly fast but them somehow I found my self at the front of the pack at the start of the second lap. That wasn't a good place to be, so quickly sat up, Jezz had a go and also came to the same conclusion and both ended up back in the pack, away from the wind.

As this was my first road race, I actually thought the pace might a been generally a bit quicker but it did seem to slow down quite a bit on the couple of minor uphill sections! So the big bunch went round pretty much together, I think 3 guys got away and they stayed away to contect the finish.

The last lap was a bit quicker, but the bunch stayed together. Myself, Carmelo, Trahern, Tim and Phil were all fairly clsoe together (buit a bit too far back in the bunch) coming into the last corner, where it started to rev up, spread all across the full width of the road, only to be broken up by a car coming down the other way (what were the marshalls thinking of?). Everyone over to the left, car passes, spread out again, put down some gas and then bang! some one went down on the left and basically it concertinered across the road. Unfortunately coz the CCA riders were close together, we got taken out and that was the end of that. acording to my speedo, we were doing just under 30mph when the crash happended.

Sp there goes my first RR. It was a bit easier than I had anticipated but every bit as exciting, especially when you're charging in the bunch, seemingly not making any effort. I'd encourage you to try it if you haven't. Take out the last bit and it'd have been great.

Hope my back recovers quickly, so I can have another go in the Primervera!

    Lee
  • Nice one Lee. Another Jez in the making me thinks. Well done, hope the back is ok.
  • Great to see a strong CCA road race squad emerging. TH, hope you recover for the Primavera. And i agree that Jez has "an air of stealth about him", he was remarkably quiet and smooth with his "24" last wednesday.
    Well done to all
