Youth Section at Welwyn - South East Omnium
First of four rounds of South East Region Omnium at Welwyn Velodrome yesterday.
Youth A (Under 16) was represented by Theo, Callum, Jon and Ed.
U12 by Tristan Rayner.
There was some serious talent on show and was a great experience for all the lads, none of whom disgraced themselves in a field of 22 for the whole of the South East!
Ed finished dead last but was not disheartend. He is well known for his 'lack of stamina' and favours short sprint events.
He had a plan to save himself for the sprints but backfired when using a 'grasstrack' overtake in the 500m match sprint.
He was not aware that he couldn't undertake coming out of the final bend and the poor lad that got 'shouldered' was a bit shocked when Ed passed him like a missile.
The spectators voiced a fantastic 'ooh' as he went through.
Despite this, he says he 'loves cycling' and is determined to come back 'hard'.
The main thing to say about this event is how the lads supported and encouraged each other, they were a proper team.
It was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon!!
