SUNDAY 9am CLUB RIDES

edited June 2011 in Club runs
I have noticed that with the better weather and increasing fitness of riders our rides seem to be overlooking this important steady state ride.
For new members especially those not used to riding with groups or just coming back into cycling and trying to get fitter we haven't really been catering on a Sunday for them.

I would like to help make these a regular core ride so that there aren't any unknowns.

This Sunday I am doing the Chiltern 100...

I will start them on 12th June 9am leaving from The Three Tuns...that's so new riders get to meet other club members before splitting into group rides.

This ride will be as advertised on the Club Website and ride at the speed of our slowest rider. Rides will be 30-35 miles long. They will take place every Sunday if there are enough riders to help and people wanting the rides.

Can someone more capable than me start a Doodle for other club members who would like to take one of these rides.

This will allow riders to get to know newer members, enjoy a pleasant ride just spinning and help share the role so allowing others to join in a longer ride some weeks.

Any other volunteers for this?

  • Just bringing this to the top again.......This Sunday 12th June.....30-35 miles....ride paced at slowest riders ability....15mph or so......9.00am The Three Tuns.
  • 8 of us this morning although 6 wanted to go further and faster...We split after about 5 miles and Richard and I went our own way into th wind and rain.....not too bad really......a bit hilly and 35 or so miles at 15mph as the label said.......a nice ride out ........We met the other group once more during the ride and they caught up to us just as we were coming in from Bygrave.

Another one next Sunday...same time....let's hope weather is kinder.
  • Same again this week Geoff?
  • Yes Richard.........Steady ride...mileage and speed to suit those who need this base ride.
  • 10 riders out today on this base club ride.......36 miles at a steady pace...easy start and first half paced at just under 15.5mph into the wind.....normal two bridges ride via water tower at Wrestlingworth..into Potton and then down Everton Hill....we went through Cardington and as we turned we had the strong wind behind us most of the way home....fast return wind assisted always waiting at the lumpy bits to gather all....hopefully all had a good ride.....we came in at the finish in the high 16's ....good to see Bob on this ride again and a welcome back to Paul Schlote

Please note...we will always ride to accomodate those on the ride, so don't panic if this seems a little fast...the pace is always kept within the capabilities of those riding.

Next Sunday I will be on the Geoff Denny 100 mile so we need someone who isn't doing this to guarantee a 35 mile 15-16 mph club ride..........volunteers please
  • Just reminding everyone......I am doing the 100 mile ride......Alec has volunteered to take a 9am 35 mile base club run this Sunday for those who don't wish to do a long ride or for those who don't feel up to such a distance yet.....

Thanks Alec....meet at the Three Tuns at 9am as normal...have a good ride everyone
  • I hope this ride went well...Just to remind everyone I will be taking this ride again on next Sunday 3rd July...base ride at slowest riders pace...35 miles or so....to suit those on the ride. see you all then
  • Geoff hint taken - 5 out for a Trahern mystery tour around Essex and south of Cambridge. A very interesting route that covered some virgin soil for most of us I think.
Got a bit feisty at Fulbourn when Iain got the red mist and attempted to chase down a rider on the horizon on the hill out of Fulbourn. Trahern and I went with him and alas Senecio plus one could n't bridge and we didn't wait sorry :( Daniel.
Iain, Trahern and I ploughed on through the Shelfords, Newton, Haslingfield, chapel hill etc. back to Ashwell. We enjoyed seeing the ton up boys as we headed for Haslingfield. You lot looked like we felt, hot and fly bitten.

Stats (for me at least) 77 miles at 19.5mph. back for 1300 and the European GP (40 winks).
  • all's good...they are big boys and am sure they managed fine. Good to see you boys on the ride. Agree on flybitten and hot....thought you 3 looked on a mission
