Good turnout this morning (10 of us) for another ride of two halves.
It was a bit of an unpromising start, with damp & overcast conditions but we set off at a cracking pace along the flat roads to Barrington. A brief stop at the top of the hill saw the weather change almost in an instant to hot & humid and everybody regretting their choice of waterproofs or long sleeved tops. We continued on through the eversdens to kingston where TimO showed some quite excellent bike handling skills when the road mysteriously disappeared from under his wheels!! After loosing the two John's we regrouped and headed off to Bourne then Gransden.
It was here that the reason for our cracking pace became apparent as the fantastic tailwind now turned into a murderous headwind. It was a long hard slog form here all the way back to Ashwell with everybody taking a turn on the front & enjoying the rare decent of Croyden hill.
As is now compulsory for this ride, we wound it up about 4 miles from Ashwell with TimO and JamesG fighting for the sign at Ashwell. I came in a fairly respectable 3rd afters TonyC took his foot of the gas too early :)
A good ride had by all & many thanks to Alison for tea in the garden at the end.
