Saturday morning Sportive - 9th July (provisionally)

edited June 2011 in Club runs
It's getting closer......

Just a reminder we have two possible routes for our Saturday Ride Summer Sportive!

The dates for this are either the 9th or 16th July. We will aim for the first of the two weekends (Saturday 9th) but if the weather is really rubbish that day I thought we could have a backup of the following week. So we can confirm it will happen a couple of days beforehand.
Both routes are just over 60 miles and go in different directions so that we can pick the one where we have the wind behind us on the way back! So the route will be weather dependent.

The preferred route is:
Ashwell - Moggerhanger - Grafham - Offord Darcy - Gamlingay - Ashwell: which is 61.3 miles

or if the wind is in the 'wrong' direction we will do:
Baldock - Luton Airport - Codicote - Cromer - Ashwell: which is 61.4 miles
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/34475560/

The pace will be about 15mph (not our 16mph recent average) to make it more accessible to more people. There will also be a stop half way round for a coffee (if we can find somewhere). Then at the end I thought we could have lunch in the Tuns back in Ashwell.
So to get this all done in time we will start at 8.30. There will be a usual Saturday ride at 9.30 for those that don't want to do this ride.

Hope you can make it.

Paul

    Hi everyone,

So the weather is looking OK for this Saturday, so lets assume this Saturday is a go!

    The route is:
Ashwell - Moggerhanger - Grafham - Offord Darcy - Gamlingay - Ashwell: which is 61.3 miles
    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/34475560/

The pace will be a strict 15mph average. If you want to go quicker, we'll see you back in Ashwell! There will also be a stop half way round for a coffee (at Grafham Water).

So to get this all done in time we will start at 8.30, meeting at The Three Tuns carpark. At 15mph, (with a break) we should be back by 1.00pm in time for lunch in the Tuns

There will be a usual Saturday ride at 9.30 for those that don't want to do this ride.

    Hope you can make it.

  • So 15 people turned out early on Saturday morning, which was a great result. Covered 62 miles at around 15.5mph! A plus was we dodged the showers as well. Well done to both junior Maynards who seemd to make it look ridiculously easy!
  • Great, a very good turnout and pretty quick too. Sounds like a very good idea that
  • Yep....it was a good idea and a good ride. Thanks Pauls for all the arrangements, we'll have to do it again sometime eh...?
