edited July 2011 in Club runs
looks like this is going on this Sunday so thought I'd stick it in the right place....BKTOF..(be kind to old *arts)

Hexton-Lilley-Datchworth 60. With a Summer bonus to Buntingford, Anstey, Barley, Royston to nudge it nearer 70.

Good to be back on the Sunday ride. Quite eventful wot with Carmelo's injury, groups riding off, and wait for it... James taking a full tumble in the ford after calling us all 'Fannies' for not going through it. James was fine but took on a torn tyre. After a few minutes he could see the fanny side of it. An enjoyable 70m.
  • Well the story of my ride goes like this. I tried to bridge to the lead group on Lilley Bottom to ask that they stop to allow those caring for Carmelo to catch up. I failed and slowed down to let Theo join me; he came fuming past with the single of objective of doing the same. (I understand he did). Anyway I waited around in Whitwell for a bit and when no one else showed up I decided to head back to Ashwell. Went via Knebworth, Aston and Walkern. Coming down into the valley from Aston I spied a CCA shirt heading for Walkern. I started to pursue. Lots of snot later I eventually caught Tim Hector and Jason near the A 505; no wonder it took me an age to get them!

Got back to Ashwell and chatted to man with a bike older than Geoff. Waited for Theo, who duly showed up with Jens Woolsey.

Absolutely gutted to have missed ‘the curious incident of the mid stream fanny’; sounds HILARIOUS.

Have we all been watching ITV4 a little too much recently?

Hope you get sorted Carmelo, terrible to see a fellow in so much pain.

    Daniel
  • Thanks guys...Sorry if I mucked the rhythm up a bit today..I was so looking forward to a nice ride and a chat with everyone as I wasn't racing for a change.....as some of you know these leg pains (due to lower back problems) happen every now and then and boy does it hurt when it comes on!....seeing Donna(Physio) tomorrow ..so hope it can be sorted quickly....Ford incident sounds funny...stopped at Whitwell for a coffee courtesy of Geoff with Alistair and Adam and felt a bit better and they escorted me home..thanks for that...see you soon
  • Sorry we never hooked up Daniel - we were waiting at the end of the road at the Codicote garden centre. Glad to hear Carmelo got back OK.

MC - fear not - it's a public bridleway thattaway. All legit. So, maybe another time. Oh yeh - there's a ford to cross... I hope your wheels are fine James.

The group divided at Cromer. Me, Strappy, Robbie went on with the tailwind [mostly!] and dodged all the rain back to Ashwell, 18.3mph av - but that belies a more intense time of it in between the earlier stop-starts. Good ride - and nice to catch up with so many others. If there's 20-25 or so out next time - let's maybe create a divide at the start? The communication gets all rather tins and string otherwise.
  • A classic today. A bit of everything after we started off as 22 but ended up an ever diminishing group until redhill.
A wonderful Geoff moment less than a mile in when race radio reported the peleton must slow for a wardrobe change?! The group was shattered by the Cat -3 Hexton killer and from this followed a rather interesting moment of pause in someone's front garden. Hope things are improving Carmelo.

For the unlucky who missed my fordmeister moment I am sure there will be another classic at some point. I used to think it was only worth wearing a helmet because other riders may make a mistake and bring me down. Now it is clear I am quite capable of causing myself injury without any outside contribution! As our young sage Cam said "Karma caught up with you quickly".
  • well everyone..what fun...our wardrobe moment was for Carmelo to adjust his style and comfort setting at the beginning as he came equipped with the wrong underwear or something like it :-)...not quite as measured a ride as I had hoped for our re-established Sunday medium to medium Fast group, but then is it ever as one expects??...,...thanks for the route Martin and you are right in saying we probably ought to have split as 22 is really too large a group to communicate well..........everyone in good spirits and rest assured Carmelo will be back as his "more normal" self sooner than is healthy for us slower ones......was hoping to stay with the bunch but in all honesty you were looking too fit for me so was glad of an excuse to ride back with Carmelo.........James, I am truly sorry to have missed your inaugural crash as the prospective inheritor of my unusual/spectacular crashmeister mantle...delighted to see a fellow club member taking on this serious role............since becoming a coach I am not so free to resume this arduous duty.... so thankyou.

    well chaps

That was my first long ride since our epic battle in the mountains and boy did my legs complain along the way
unlike danel 1 did manage to bridge the gap to the speedsters up front but from then on i was at the back for the rest of the ride,so a big thanks to martin & robbie for towing me back to ashwell.

I was Just getting on the hinxworth rd and the hevens gave me all it had through the driving rain i saw kev & a couple of others battling through it to ashwell a proper drenching that was.

James hope you not to sore today i was level with you when you crashed down looked nasty in slow mo.hope your bikes ok .

I managed to get home with 73 miles @ 17.8 on the clock robbie you said i should do 19 ave (bloody break blocks ha.ha. Any way nice to back out and get my legs back up to speed.

I totally agree with Martin's well made communciation point and the terrific Tins and String analogy - I have visions of us all being linked together with plastic cups and string. I would also add that "waiting" for someone at the start of ride should not be done at 12mph in Ashwell High Street and then the same along the Hinxworth Road. From where I sat at the rear of the bunch this was causing a number vehicle difficulties, and our relatively slow pace coupled with so many riders caused our bunch riding discipline to go AWOL. Going forward, may I suggest that if we are waiting for someone that we just pull safely off the road and wait. Besides, all that slowing down business spoils our average speed - lets just stop...

    Ta......

PS thanks for waiting in Codicote chaps - terrific ride.
  • and I cant believe no-one has mentioned Geoff's "do I look good on all fours" pose!!!! as he shows Carmelo how to stretch his back out. shame no-one had a camera....... or did they ???
