saturday 30th July 9.30am (mini mountain stage)

edited July 2011 in Club runs
Hello all,

In homage to the TDF I thought that we could do our own 'mini mountain stage' tomorrow.

It takes in all the climbs around Royston & gives us a grand total of 1322ft of ascent with 3 categorized climbs :)

Seas of people at the summits and newspapers for the descents are optional........

See you tomorrow

  • Excellent ride and a all round good buzz...thanks David....!
  • An excellent turnout (16) for the etape du Royston this morning. Climbing started gently with the drag up to the 505 at the little chef before the real hills started as we turned right out of Royston.

From then on it was up and down all the way across therfield Heath from the golf course hill to the 'hidden' hill near the church at sandon. Competition for king of the mountains jersey was fierce but in the end Dave A was a clear winner with myself & Vic coming a close second.

If one jersey wasn't enough, the green sprint jersey was also contested on the way back to Ashwell. DaveA was up for this title also but an attack that was way to early left the door open for TimO to sail past for an unchallenged victory.

Stats from mapmyride were 1322ft of climb although brian's GPS made it 2400 so we will go with this figure!

Thanks to all for a great ride.

  • Excellent ride David in perfect weather.

Very enjoyble. In 20 yrs @ Royston I'd never been on the road south from Sandon to the A505 so the hidden hill was a great surprise. As for the sprint (!) this is exactly what you should expect when you get Saturday riders on a Saturday ride. ******* chaos.

    Thanks again

  • What a fantastic ride! My second with the club and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Again, I met a great bunch of people which makes all the difference and really helped me climb those hills! I hope to be back in a couple of weeks after some trails in Wales!

Thanks to everyone for a great morning's ride.
