Ashwell GrassTrack Club?!
Geoff has done a fantastic job getting the new track sorted and it's great to see that members are enjoying it but please don't forget that there are many grasstrack events that happen around our region and it would be nice to have some club support at a few more!
The best way to learn is to get out and race!!
For instance, today, Edward U16 and Anneka U12 were the only Ashwell representitives at the Suffolk Wheelers meeting at Bury St. Edmunds.
Normally Andrew Leverton would be there racing in the National Short Grasstrack 800m championship (which he happens to be leading) but he is away on holiday. We've had a few members at some of the meetings this year, Jon, Cameron, Ollie, Anna etc. but it would be great to have a regular team presence & support like most of the other clubs that attend these events.
They are great events that are suitable for all the family and although sometimes fast and furious, all ages and abilities are catered for.
Today, for example, Ed had a huge battle in the U16 Omnium and finished 1st Overall.
He entered the adult 3 member team sprint with two ladies from Colchester - 3rd
He rode the madison with his arch rival from Maldon club. - 3rd
Anneka finished 2nd in the U12 Omnium.
How great would it have been to have decent Ashwell representation and what a great way to promote our own club event in September?!
Other clubs turn out on mass and for a club now with it's own grasstrack, Ashwell has a very low profile!! It's embbarrassing!
We'll be at Hertford for the Team Welwyn event tomorrow, hopefully a few other youth members will make it too?
There is no events calendar for grasstrack on this website so you can either google other clubs sites for their event dates or, the British Cycling website has an events section and although GrassTrack is not available as an individual filter, you can find events by searching under 'track, all diciplines' to see where grasstrack events are taking place. Most events can be entered in advance and I can't think of many that don't allow entry on the line.
For those that aren't familiar with the dicipline we've had some events here this year....
Gem Estate - Letchworth
Plomesgate - Ipswich
Biggleswade - Beds
Maldon - Essex
Brentwood - Essex
Bury St. Edmunds - Suffolk
Hertford - just up the road (06/08/11)
Ashwell - (01/09/11)
Mildenhall - Suffolk (27 - 29 Aug /11)
Spalding - Lincs (3/9/11)
If you don't know how to go about entering or what to expect when attending these events, please talk to me and I'll give you the low down.
As a family, we've been going to these events for the last three years and although they don't have the glamour of 'LeTour' and suchlike they are extremely entertaining and benefical to improving your riding/racing skills!!

You need racing licences and the good news is British Cycling have another push for membership going now...they are offering FREE membership at Silver level and a racing licence with it to NEW members..........I have forms to fill in and you automatically get membership of their new HUB and its benefits
COME ON CCA...get racing...we should take all the prizes in all categories if we really try.
I'll give a report of today's racing later on....
Ed, Andrew L, Anneka and Anna had a some great results.
Andrew Leverton won the 800m National Grasstrack round, we think his lead may now be unassailable!
Ed won U16 Omnium.
Anneka won U12 Omnium and Anna was second! (For those that don't know, Anna is only 8!)
Ed and Andrew joined two other Team Welwyn riders and won the Italian team sprint.
Anneka and Anna made up a ladies team with a veteran lady rider and another youth, although they finished last, they were only a matter of seconds behind the next placed team.
It is nice that these Ashwell riders are instantly recognised by other teams and commentators, come on the rest of you !!!
We had a flyer attached to the registration table and a nice anouncement on the PA for the Sept. 1st Event.
