I will be there tomorrow for either a 35-40 mile at 15-17 mph or the longer 60-70 mile at 17+mph.......... Depends who is there and who is planning a route....
Tough Tour de Grafham fast medium ride today, thanks Trahern. All good apart from the cold shower, 2 x punctures and the whinger who kept getting dropped. There was the exciting exploding tyre moment as well. My legs finally surrendered at Gamlingay when they recognised where we were and I headed home. Approx 80 miles at 18mph.
I promise to try and be on better form next time if we can have some climbs!
I went through 3 tyres and had another puncture as I got to Eyeworth - only option was to tie a knot in the tube and inflate enough for a lumpy plod back ( thanks for the advice Tim / Phil)
Must remember that 2 year old Pro Race 3s are not the best thing to take out when its rainy on our flint lined roads; now what tyres should I get instead?
Team puncture repair .... ">"> mmm not sure you should do it like that....
Pro race 3 in my experience hate wet roads and will puncture more frequently than tougher tyres. ( I had a pro 3 on the front, Krylion in rear and was lucky not to puncture)
These are more resistant yet fast. "Michelin Krylion Carbon Road Bike Tyres 700x23" the Krylion which is a nice fast tyre yet more puncture resistant.
I have Michelin Krylions on my winter bike and they survived months of wet riding without cuts or punctures. However, I'm glad they didn't puncture, as they are the hardest folding tyre to fit that I've come across.
Both the Krylion and the Pro 3 Race are being phased out this year, when the new Pro 4 Race series is introduced in the autumn. The range includes the 'Endurance' which is supposedly the tougher, longer=lasting and most punture resistant.
I'll probably give them a go when I need them, also there might well be some bargain Pro 3s and Krylions around when they are being sold off to make way for the new range.
Well chaps
that was agood ride had everything to make it great wind , rain, cold , punctures galore felt much better this week only got droped a couple of times.
Got back home with 85 @ 18 ave so not to bad with that wind in my face on the homeward leg.
Sorry guys no such such this as puncture proof tyres but anything with kevlar belt in it is better than summer tyres as thin as paper.
I think the bontrager hardcase that i use are ok also vittoria rubino 3d compound , & bomb proof armadillo are good although on heavy side
and having slated the conti gaitorskins the new one out has added shoulder protection so its your call buy some or stand on the roadside in
the freezing cold winter wich is just round the corner.
can not make the next installment my grand daughters christning in manchester.
have a good ride
strappy.
