Book Now Open

edited October 2011 in Club runs
The book is now open on Cav's destination for 2012.
Just over two weeks ago at the Bury St Edmunds start of the TOB my missus asked Brian Holm to autograph Cav's book and then started chatting to him about his role in Chasing Legends, his future with HTC folding and various other bits and pieces - well you know what they are like when they get started. Anyway out of this conversion Brian told her that he was going to the Belgian squad Omega Pharma Quick Step next year - with regard to her question about Cav's future all he would say is wait and see -rumour now has it that Cav could well follow Brian AND that the decision will be announced in the next week.
So who's for SKY (how would Cav fit in with Brads GC desires and BH's sprinting) and who's for OP Q-S or does antone have any better ideas????

  • don't see Cav with QS.......Aussie team distinct poss......still go with Sky.....money will have to be serious as he is such a draw....got to be one of the hottest prospects around .
  • OP QS have just signed to ride Specialized for the next three years - who likes to ride Specialized
  • Money has to be on QS- they lost a lot of good riders, had an influx of well HTC and have Brian Holm.
Seemingly green edge want an Aussie team brand so signing cav would steal all the limelight.
Apparently a verbal unofficial deal was agreed with sky but bike/kit problems.
Got to be the highest paid rider next year though!
  • in a way I'm hoping he does go to QS, I just can't see how sky could do their best with wiggins, thomas, bh, et al across stage races and classics and then have to accommodate cav and the train that goes with him. Taking on too much I would have thought.
  • Would Cavendish really go to a team with Greipel (the Gorilla) after their tempestuous relationship at HTC before Greipel left for Omega??
  • can't see Cav and Greipel working...ditto conflict within Sky is an issue Tim.....I always wondered how DB would square the opposing claims on the teams loyalty.....however I saw how the team rode for Cav at the worlds and you have to say they all looked mighty pleased together....I hope he does sign Sky because we are beginning to really have an impact.
  • The sticking point with Sky seems to be Cav's insistance on riding a Specialized bike next year, Omega Pharma Quick Step have just switched to Spesh for next year for Tony Martin, so the move suits Cav.

I can't see why Cav doesn't want ride a Pinarello like a proper cyclist!

    Vic
  • he can do what they used to do- use his specialized, then spray it!
  • OK books been open for 24 hrs now and you have started to show the colour of your money so here are the latest prices:
13/8 fav Sky (Ellingham/ Brailsford combo could win the day)
3/1 Omega P Quick Step(Spec bikes, Holms and half the old HTC team)
    10/1 BMC Racing(American - plenty of money)
    15/1 Rabobank(could they afford him)
    33/1 Katusha (why not)
100/1 Sean Kelly An Post(just because Cav likes Green)
100/1 Europcar(same reason as Sean Kelly)
150/1 Green Edge(well they are called green even if they are Aussie)
250/1 Rapha Condor Sharp (well teddy Sherringham went and
played for West Ham so anything could happen)

So who is your money on lads lets see the colour of your money (make believe money only cyclists don't have any real money left at this time of year)
  • mines a tenner on sky with an outside punt for a fiver on green edge
  • I had not read that he was so into specialized bikes? Is this really true? Weren't HTC on Giant only a year ago? I think this is a red herring. At his level they will make his frame do whatever he wants. See Boonen re: specialized a few years ago, totally unique frame for him!

This article is one of many on the interweb speculating about Specialized and Cav's move.

Inner Ring - 'Cavendish, Specialized, Omega-Quickstep and the vacuum'
  • so only skim read that as have a meeting to go to... but that's all about Specialized not wanting to lose him... obviously, not him loving their bikes??
  • I should think it is more to do with money and contracts than the actual bike.
  • Sky still acting like they will/have signed Cav. They picked up Danny Pate from HTC yesterday:
Team Sky said in a statement: "Pate immediately settled in [at HTC] and became one of Mark Cavendish’s main lead-out men as the Manxman became the first British rider ever to win the green jersey at the Tour de France."

my money is still on Sky. Think Brailsford has appealed to Cav's "teamplayer" emotions, offering to fully support him going for stage wins/green jersey but at the same time "wouldnt it be great to be part of a team that puts the first ever Brit on the TdF podium" etc

Whether in practice this is achievable remains to be seen.
  • That'll be Cav to SKY then, along with Eisel. (just announced)

    not surprised at all.
  • odds on I always thought so 13/8 was very good odds.....don't become a bookmaker Geoff118.....result.
