Sunday Medium group suggestion - 27 Nov 9:00am

edited November 2011 in Club runs
anyone up for an 08:00 start??

I need to be in Knebworth for 12:00'ish to watch my son play footy, so if anybody has a route suggestion to drop me off in that general direction that would be great :-)

  • Yeah. Come out on Saturday instead with us!
  • I am hopeless with routes, but would be up for this as I cannot do Saturday this week
    Alistair

Looks breezy tomorrow! Interesting. So... head right into it and blast back? With a cheeky climb up Sharpenhoe Clappers? 66 miles.

Skelders - we'd get to Knebworth on 50 miles. Without stopping much or punctures we'd get there about 12ish if we average 17mph.
  • Sounds good Martin, is that a 09.00 start??

Yep - It's a 9:00am Medium ride. Ne monkey business pas.

As usual - there's also the steady 9:00am ride, folks [40ish miles]. And James' ride at 9:30am.

I might do a few miles before 9am. Gotta play it by ear though.

btw - Chap I met in Potton Square cafe today: sorry I didn't get your name. You'd be fine with maybe giving the Saturday 9.30am ride a go for a taster - and guests are welcome. Ask for David and introduce yourself - enjoy! See the website for details http://www.ccashwell.com/club-runs.html
  • C u at 09.00 then matey....
  • Internal Director of Affairs has vetoed today's ride due to inclement weather conditions!

And I'm afraid I agree... Possibly MTB or most likely turbo for me....

    Thanks Martin for creating a route to drop me off at Knebworth but toooo risky :-}
  • No worries. Gonna go on so will see who's there at 9am. Can always turn back... With a tailwind. Maybe combine steady and medium for a bit to hide in numbers? Thar she blows.
  • Damn , weather doesn't seem 2 bad now! Had a good spin on the MTB though!

Hope u had a gd ride!
  • All good today: really breezy but never dangerous at all. And very mild for end of Nov. Maybe 18 went out at 9am as one. That divided early on at Langford - the Steady group looking for 35-40 miles at an all-inclusive pace. We dived into a bus shelter soon after as the heavens bucketed it down. I hope the Steady ride dodged this. Or found a massive bus shelter. Within a few minutes, it eased and we ploughed on in the lighter, horizontal wet.

Steve turned off after Broom leaving me, Strappy and Alistair to see it through. The rain soon stopped and we dried off quickly in the wind. Steady as she goes - to the M1 bridge at just 15mph then down to the Clappers - Alistair no problem on his three-gear fixed-not fixed. A bit too blasted to give it full throttle with the tailwind down Lilley. Strappy and Alistair turned for base at Whitwell - both the guys looking to not push things too far. Got to Knebworth at 12.05pm - Skelders you shouldha been there! Felt really whacked alone on the front of one - so gutted to get to Watton to feel the wind had changed to a Northerly. Bother! 66m @ 16.4mph, back 1.10pm. Wind dropped to nowt by the time I'd washed me bidons.

Might be stuck on Sundays for a while: hoping to bump up the middle ride in numbers along the way.
  • Must have just missed you Martin, I was there for 12.15 coming from Datchworth, off road of course ;-)
  • sounds just great Martin. Sorry you finished alone. I would like to have joined you, but am on a schedule now on fixed so have to stick to my planned mileage and speed through the winter....we skipped the rain totally..well just some spray....38/9 miles at 15mph.....Chris brought his friend Kieran along and he manned up although new to the bike and cycling...He struggled and we all kept a steady pace until he bonked around the 505 crossover..with a tail wind we held together but Alec,Malcolm and Chris split to ride with Kieran....The rest of us picked it up and headed home past StHelenas and back through Bygrave.....tough on a fixed but all good...hell of a wind worse than yesterday's ride

great ride thanks for the route sorry to leave you at whitwell but i was starting to feel my lower back hurting
myself & alistair rode steady up to preston, wymondley, willian, split at baldock i had the wind in my face the last few miles that was hard work doing 8-14 mph all way down the bypass just made it back home before collapsing.

finished on 67 @ 17mph so was happy with that in those conditions should see you all next week (my back felt ok
    this morning) happy days.
