Broome Heath Cross
For the penultimate round of the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League riders travelled eastwards for the Broome Heath Scramble. The weather was freezing cold, and the majority of the grassly land was still frozen as riders arrived and began to explore the fun course.
During the Vets/Women race we even experienced a 15 minutes of light snow. However, the CC Ashwell riders were not deterred and rode to record some of their best results. Daniel Doncaster survived the "blizard" to finish 49th in the Vets, meanwhilst in the Women's race, Stephanie Wyer came in 9th and Jackie Field took 6th.
As the ground started to gradually defrost, the U12s took to the course, with James Fraser (U10) coming in in an impressive 12th. By this time the sandy run up had melted and two large puddles had formed at the bottam of the course.
In the youth race, Theo Doncaster rode impressively strongly to finish 2nd, I (Bryn Davies) got my first top-10 finishing in 9th with Jon Chapman one behind me in 10th. A great effort from the youth section: all 3 riders in the top ten is a great result.
Everyone really enjoyed the event, which featured a great course and a fun atmosphere...even if it was freezing!

At 1 degree C it was T-shirt & shorts weather though, compared to the last two years' events. In fact we spotted a couple of riders in the senior event racing in shorts and short-sleeved jerseys... :-/
Here are a few photos from the V/W and U12 events.
