Around 18 riders headed off to Grafham on a 64-70m ride that turned into an 80m one.
Worked well with each taking 2 mins on the front - nice one Carmello. New roads here and there made it different from yesterday's route there. Heading back a few of us broke off to get back a tad earlier. Now, if we weren't already battered then a through and off for an hour certainly took its toll. Idled back from the mordens to cool down those burning quads. Must say.... rather wasted now. Top ride.

  • Yep, another tip top CCA ride and some excellent new lanes - thank guys.
  • bloody hell that was a good one
thanks for pulling me back guys, sorry for slowing you down
I was in desperate need of an SIS recovery butty (science in sausage)
  • Legs gave out and hit the wall at about 60 miles - that'll teach me to bring 1litre of drink for 5 hours of ride. Plodded home, thanks Trahern for sticking with me through Bourn. Still managed over 80 miles, which is the furthest I've been on the fixed, ever (and a 17mph average).Great ride, thanks to all for the company.
  • Banging ride! Helped somewhat by the benign conditions (no wind), I recorded 81 @ 18.5 for the clubrun part. Nice. Well done to Theo who was in our little group at the end (yes, we did have CRB reps :). Check that saddle height though mate...

Rounds off a thoroughly excellent 320 mile week for me!

    Shaun
  • thanks for the pointer shaun

bit dissapointed that you all left cameron for dead and that the other junior had to be picked up at longstowe....well done to trahern for driving cameron back.... seems Im not as 'nasty' as some

well that was a typicall sunday medium/nastie ride i never knew were the heck i was for a fair bit of that ride
i got stuck in no mans land had to keep just plodding along at my own pace the nasties were gone trahern andre the young ones were just behind me.
Carmello came past me so i just tries to follow him bad idea he was a spec in the distance before to long i must have gone the wrong way because as i came passed the tuns on the way home i saw the theo who at one point was behind me getting in dads car, got home with 97.5 miles 17.5 ave fell in the back door begging for food that was me done for the rest of the day.
    TOP RIDE !!!!.
    strappy.
  • The Grafham route they said. What we didn’t realise was this was the ‘new’ Grafham route that included a loop into Hilton, Fenstanton, Knapwell and Bourn – and it was at Bourn that I got dropped by the breakaway group, so trundled back to Ashwell via the A1198 and Wendy and Shingay – 75 miles – all good training....

Blimey! i missed all the fun by the sounds of it?

A few 'Top Tips from Tim'

    1) being absolutely rubbish at directions - a garmin is a god send! having peeled off somewhere between Ashwell & Grafham to get home for 12:00, suddenly remembered I had know idea of where I was! Pre garmin days i would have got home at about 6pm! However, I merely turned the screen to the map display and there was this blue line indicated where we'd come from... yep, you've guessed it... i followed the blue line home again... Brilliant - (Strappy, you've got to get one!).

    2) If you want to really know how to spin the pedals... follow Theo for a couple of miles! Thanx Theo... I think I might have finally cracked it just by watching you! However i would also agree with Shaun, your saddle height did look a bit suspect!

    Great ride

more 'Top Tips from Tim' soon ;-)
  • skelders

but yes your spot on i will have to get one i love gadgets any way.
    see you soon.
    strappy.
  • lol.. Strappy, cuts this end too I'm afraid :-( don't believe the vicious rumours, it will be a quiet year for me too! but understood.

I do have a Polar CS500 up for sale though if anyones interested? great piece of kit... but just doesn't show me the way home!

  • who needs to follow a blue line when you can follow the "blue train"................!!
  • nice.... only if they're going the right way though ;-)
  • Strappy
i had gone ahead in the break, then my dad was waiting to pick me up in ahswell, but then it hadn't been long before we saw yopu so you cant't have been that far from us.
  • Yes...That was a good group and a good ride for the most part except for the last section as Andre pointed out....It's normal that some riders will begin to tire in the latter stages of a ride and it becomes more difficult to keep the group as one but we really ought to just stop for a moment and make a plan rather than just carry on leaving riders behind (especially young riders who we would like to come back)

Andre,Trahern and myself stayed back to help some riders back and here is where we just needed to sort things out rather than just taking off..I also needed to be back and past Longstowe I realised it was gone 1 o'clock and I had 15 guests waiting for lunch at 1.30...Luckily Andre and Trahern agreed to look after the guys...I rode as hard as I could to get back, caught the remnants of front group at Ashwell and got home sweating and panting to everybody sitting waiting for me at 1.43..had to apologise and grovel big time!

Talk about a state change..within 10 minutes I was showered ,changed and sat down eating and drinking as if nothing had happened thinking this lot around the table have no idea what I've been through!

Anyway thanks again to Trahern and Andre...and to any struggling riders..do come again..it will get better....promise!
  • sounds terrific fun!! Wish I were fit enough to ride with you all...my programme is not suited to this at present , if ever by the sounds of it.....from reports the lads sound fine if a bit careworn...was a hard ride this time.......great to see a bunch of this size going for it....nice to see a group looking out for the lads...thanks guys
  • thanks Carmelo etc for towing when I died towards the end. Had been expecting it to be 65/70 miles and got a bit of a shock when I hit 65 miles and recognised where we were...not near ashwell :/ good ride though, nice route. See you all another time soon
