Can anyone 'lead' the ride tomo please?

Alas, Tim is not available.

I can be there at a push, but am time- restricted

Alternatively, help is desperately needed at the Grass Track.....

The longer ride group of 7 led by Trahern, with Phil K, Adam, Steve, Alistair, Jon and myself did a fairly lumpy route, up to Therfield, Reed, Great Chishill, Saffron Walden, Radwinter....

Out near Radwinter we came across the ECCA Festival race which had been affected by a crash. Someone had spotted Jason still in the bunch. Jez had been involved in the crash but was ok. I heard later the injured rider suffered a fractured cheek bone.

Jason finished a fine 3rd with Carmelo 24th.

On to Castle Camps, Bartlow, Linton, Balsham, Fulbourn, Gog and Magog (all still together), Shelfords, Newton, Haslingfield. Here my legs gave out at the bottom of Barrington Hill so I crawled home for a quick shower and snack before heading over to help judge the grass track races.

    Great ride, thanks everyone,
    Mark.
  • 4 of us broke away over Barrington (well actually we chased after Trahern) eventually he turned off home and left Phil, Steve and myself; I think Steve's legs gave out quite soon but Phil and I pressed on - eventually I was broken at Gilden and Phil powered on to a comfortable ride in. I finished with a round 70 miles on the clock and a not too shabby 18.5 average. Great ride. Hope Jez is OK after the nasty looking incident.
  • hi guy's

Sorry i could not make this ride done my back in AGAIN !! back to the physio tuesday.
Hopfully be back sunday for an easy ride or two before my florida trip.

    Strappy.
  • im fine thanks, just some bruises but in one piece. The rider who broke his cheek touched a wheel or hit one of the huge pot holes and went down very hard. He then got pilled into by 4-5 other riders, i was top of the pile but although everyone else got up to go, the guy who went down first was unconcious and bleeding heavily from his face. stayed with him until he was a bit more alert, saw the cca ahwell ride come past. The organiser had been talking of cancelling but decided not to, so i carried on and waited for the group to lap me. I sat at the back of the bunch for the last 50 miles or so, chatted to alex dowsett who tagged along both races! i did sprint for the finish-which probably wasnt suppossed to, but came 3rd in the bunch sprint with 1 rider a long solo breakaway ahead and possibly another break also ahead. But pretty sure i shouldnt have sprinted or be allowed any points! Felt good though. Good to hear jason got a good result

  • Hey Jez...glad you're OK!...Didn't realise you were involved.......Yeah nice one from Jason....I Had a lot of attempts at getting away feeling a bunch sprint almost inevitable ...one time off the front by not much but flagged to stop after your crash but the funniest was when I was off the front again doing about 30mph thinking this is good when a SKY rider shot past me as if I was stood still...I noticed the kit and that he wasn't wearing a race number and of course it was Alex Dowsett..cheeky monkey!...
