2012 School Games

The Inter-Regional Road Championships are currently being run at Redbridge. This year they are incorporated into the 2012 School Games and associated Olympic bandwagon. Theo is wearing blue for the Eastern Region Team and was competing today in the criterium eliminator and also the main road race.
To be honest I didn’t understand the crit race, but he seems to have come forth in one of the races. The road race was easy to understand. HARD. 25 laps of Hog hill including the alpine bends, so 2.2km per lap and going clockwise. He held on in the lead group until lap 20 when an attack from the eventual winners shattered the peleton. He didn’t feature in the group that finally reformed, but found himself consolidating his position riding with Luke Morgan from Central (and Welwyn Wheelers) and a rider from Ulster. He finished a respectable 22nd, being the second placed rider of the Eastern Region . Any Redbridge veteran will confirm that 25 laps at Hog Hill is very tough, especially after a morning messing around with crits!
Full results can be found here LINKThe Eastern Region Team is 6th overall out of the 13 regional teams.
More road based events tomorrow at Hog Hill before moving to the Olympic Velodrome on Wednesday for some board action.

  • Watching all the young riders over the past 3 days at the UK School Games has been a truly uplifting experience.
All of the yougsters put in some amazing performances.
It has been exhausting just watching them so no wonder they all looked somewhat jaded when we picked them up from South Mimms this evening.
Racing at the Velodrome today was exciting. It was particualry good to see that the girls producing fast & aggressive racing.
Rebecca says the velodrome surface is very smooth - better than Newport - in her opinion...
  • Watching the racing over the three days has been truely amazing; very tough fought battles with flair and determination. The omnium in the Olympic Velodrome was very special. The atmosphere was fantastic and the riders responded to the situation with spirited riding; not phased by the enormity of it all but rather inspired by it.

As Alison hints the girls Points Race was brilliant, really great sport.

I will leave it for Theo to describe his experiences but from my perspective in the audience he did his club, his school, his region and himself proud.

The Eastern Team worked very well together and performed impressively. Overall we came 7/13 in the Inter-Regional Road Championships and 8/13 in the School Games Omnium.

An incredible and inspirational 3 days!
