Ixworth Crits 7th May 2012
CC Ashwell were represented again this year at Ixworth.A 800m closed circuit aound the village with a tight final corner attracting a huge number of riders of all ages including the Raleigh Team.
Pete Green was our first rider,he started well ,keeping up with the fast pace but unfortunately had to retire,as his cold made breathing difficult.Next his son Daniel ,a fantastic first road race,he kept with the field showing brilliant sprint power at the end ,to get 13th place! Next was Oliver(handsome Bob to his grass track mates),the rain had set in and it was pouring. He was not put off and rode a great race ,through puddles and slippery corners to finish 20th.
Next Jon and I took to the road, having tried to warm up on rollers with an umbrella which was not easy!!I got a great start followed by Sean Dunlea and James Tapley.Jon was close behind but then I just rode hard and fast, not looking behind me.As I completed the 1st lap I realised I had a good lead and decided to up the pace to keep the lead.Despite the slippery road surface I just kept focussed until eventually I crossed the line as the winner!Jon had a good race moving up from the group he was in ,to the next.
Ixworth is a great venue(even when it rains),CC Ashwell had a great day and it was incredible to see Graham Briggs -the British Crit Champion in action-he left the other riders from the start and rode an impressive race.

Well done also to all CCA racers who took part yesterday, that is some tough racing right there.
