Plomesgate CC & Colchester Rovers grass track events

edited June 2012 in Road Racing
Pete Whelan, organiser of Plomesgate CC's grass track event on Sunday 24th June, dropped me a line to say that they are currently very lacking in youth and U12 entries. So, particularly if you missed out on the Letchworth grass track racing last weekend, this is a good opportunity.

Senior riders might be interested to know that the event is sponsored by Adnams Brewery... :) See details.

Apparently Colchester Rovers are also low on numbers for the youth & U12 races at their own grass track meeting the week before on Saturday 17th June. See details.

I know I'm a bore, but for a club with its own grass track, it's extremely poorly supported at grass track events!

Ed and Anneka have been racing grasstrack for the last four years and are doing fairly well.

We were at Fearnhill on Sunday in the rain and In Ipswich on Tuesday for national short distance league.

It's not for light weight roadies, it's proper hardcore cycling! ;)

If you want to get on the Olympic Programme, get grass track racing!
    Talk to Andrew L. ;)

Look up events on BC under 'grass track'.
Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough?
Anyone can ride 100 miles, try two laps on grass at speed.
(I've not even seen an Ashwell coach try it!)

Ex grasstrack racers included Laura Trott, Victoria Pendleton, Dean Downing...
Forget your light weight TT bikes and grow some!
  • great blog Nigel......I would compete if someone else would organise the events for the club.....maybe next year when my leg is working.

Clashes with LEJOG but up for these:

    14th July  Biggleswade Grass track
5th  August Green Arrow CRT Grass Track, Hertford
27 aug Mildenhall endurance grass track
    I5 Sept Ashwell grass track
  • To end on a higher note. Its not bad for a light weight roadie to win the omnium. well done Theo!
  • There are still only two or three U16 entries so far (of any age) for the Plomesgate event on 24th June, but the organiser is working hard to attract more. It looks like James might have a lonely day there though!

P.S. Did I mention who the sponsor for the event is...?

  • This event clashes with one of the rounds of the national youth circuit races at Solihull which maybe why they are struggling for youth entries.
  • Grasstrack always clashes with road racing.
It's very niche these days and what I say is always tongue in cheek.
Having said that, it's a great opportunity to stand out in a crowd!

Great training and tough work compared to road riding!

Good luck to all those riding in the Nationals!
