Saturday 9th June 9.30am ride
Hello all,
As I've got no idea what the weather is going to do tomorrow (forecast is dry, but as autumn looks to have arrived early so who knows !), thought that we could do this route:

Lots of scope for a shorter loop/changes if needed,
See you tomorrow,

Ride started off well, 17 of us out on the route above. Lovely tailwinds all of the way to Bourn which weren't quite so nice when they became a headwind for pretty much all of the way back. Decided to split into two groups at Gransden and the had our first 'minor' mechanical at Harley (great puncture repair master class by TimO though). The slower group wizzed past us so it was heads down and full gas back to Ashwell.
It was at this point that things started to go wrong ! AdamR had what can only be described as a mechanical meltdown just outside Guilden when his rear derailer decided to part company with his frame and take out his back wheel. Luckily it was just the bike that was damaged and not Adam, and after halting some of the by now maurading pack there were 6 of us standing on the side of the road having never really seen a bike do this before and not really knowing what to do!! Plan A was to push Adam all of way back to Ashwell but after 200 yards it was clear this was never going to happen! Fourtunatey, Chris N had his car in Ashwell so while Adam trudged towards Guilden with his bike on his back we rode on to collect the rescue vehicle.
All was going well again until we got in sight of Ashwell when John R decided that the grass verge was looking very inviting and for no apparent reason did some graceful ariel ballet to land in a patch of nettles!
So all in all quite a bizarre ride in the end!
Stats were still good however, 39 miles @ 16.5 despite the events and headwind !
Thanks all for an entertaining morning and thanks again to Chris for his good Samaritan rescue!
David
I hope everyone is OK.

Not sure if it is reassuring to hear "hmmmm, never seen that before".
The bolt holding the rear derailer on had sheared and was still inside.
What was more reassuring was to hear "I'll take photos, it should be under warranty".
But they are not sure it will be fixed for next weekend, so back to the winter bike for the sportive :(
Hope that will not bode badly for the weather.
Thanks for all the assistance guys.
John hope you are okay.
Adam
Glad to see someone else taking my place for spectacular crashes John :-)
hope all getting sorted Adam........there's always a first time.
