OK, who's up for a long-ish club ride on Sunday? This time without torrential rain. 70-80 miles with tea n cake stop.

Shaun - could you suggest a good route?

And as I write this I'm wondering what excuse Lloydy is going to come up with this time ... MTB trip, away for the w/e, washing hair?

  • This one is 77 miles. Cafe at Harrold & Odell CP. Reasonable absence of gravelly lanes...

Ashwell, Langford, Cardington, Gt. Barford, Scald End, Milton Ernest, Felmersham, Odell, Sharnbrook, Risley, Bolnhurst, Upper Staploe, Gt. Barford, Blunham, Everton, etc.

    GPX here.
  • that's spooky - 'cos that's what i was thinking - circuit de bedford!! nice sting in the tail with tempsford hill?
  • Well..... Been away on holiday..

Got home this afternoon, so I don't really have an excuse now!!!

See you in the morning :0)
  • Excellent

Anybody else for a sunny ride through the best of Bedfordshire lanes? Plenty of room in our peloton :)
  • Have we got a leader as I don't know the route!!!
  • Shaun did a great job of navigating last week, so have no fear. (And as a back up, the route's on my Garmin)
  • Jane it's bound to be backwards, though! ;)

    Ah good point, Nathan

There's bound to be a reverse button on it somewhere though. I'll check the manual over breakfast
  • A gentle pootle around Bedfordshire. I think Lloydy, especially, enjoyed the relaxed pace throughout. Sets me up nicely for my Alpine adventure. Thanks everyone. Nice riding one and all.
  • Urmmmm. Were we on a different ride!!???

Apologies for slowing you down guys, bit off a little more than I could chew!!

Kinda enjoyed it, but think the pain and suffering is still in the front of my mind!

Maybe see you again, or might just wash my hair :0)

I enjoyed today's spin, especially as my misbehaving drive-train magically repaired itself. Quite glad that the rest of you wimped out of Everton Hill as it meant I could use every swear word in my vocabulary to help me get up it at my own slow pace with burning legs!

80 miles at 18mph for me - thanks for initiating the longer club runs Jane and to Sean for his great route-planning and everyone else for the company. Must do more longer rides, anyone up for a Wells trip? It was a blast last year.
  • LLoydy, you rode very well. Determined effort given you're not used to that pace for that distance and TBH it was a bit faster than we'd normally do. You having a HR of 115-120bpm at half-time whilst sitting down drinking your coffee and eating your cake was quite funny, though.

    Jane, our stats were: 39.0m @ 18.4 out, 41.7m @ 17.9 back.
  • You're very kind Shaun :0)

The HR was that high due to the excitement of cake!!!

Thanks again for sitting at the back with me and all the very best for next week. Look forward to reading the write up once you complete it.
  • Really enjoyed the outward leg, but found it tough coming back (gentle pootle NOT). Legs hurt, but hey, it didn't kill me and it will make me stronger

Lloydy, you did fine and it was great to have you on board. Shaun, thanks for another wonderful route and for taking my mind off the burning legs just when I needed it most

I much enjoyed the nonsense talked at cafe and Tuns, which is another thing that CCA seems to be rather good at!

  • I got home with 87 and a round 18mph average - though the last 12 miles were undertaken by an empty shell who could not manage more than about 15mph.

Got home to: "..are you having a laugh, we expected you back 2 hours ago!"

    Cheers - great ride!
