Club Grass Track Champs - Sat 15th Sept

edited August 2012 in Road Racing
Hi all,

The club grass track champs will be incorporated into the club grass track meeting at Ashwell on Saturday 15th September. The highest placed club rider in the Omnium in each category will be declared the club champion and we might even be able to find a medal or two to commemorate the achievement. This is for all ages so there will be youth, junior, senior and veteran winners.

Entries in advance to Max (see BC calendar) or pay on the day. Advance entries close by 1st Sept.

Club bikes may have to be shared if there is big demand - be prepared to share even if you normally get exclusive use of a club bike.

Mark.

  • Just bringing this to the top.

Plus a reminder to anyone that borrows club bikes - can you please ensure they are returned for Thursday sessions as well as the above event. Thursdays are probably going to be very busy over the remaining weeks.

    Thanks,
    Mark.
  • Up for this one....
What time shall we turn up to sign up on the day?
  • It's 2pm start, so in plenty of time for Max to sort people out and for you to get a warm up. I would suggest at least an hour before.
  • sorry I can't be here guys (I'm at the inter-regional championships) look forward to the write up
  • Make our last session a full on success...please come and join in the last session this year. see you all at 5.30 pm.

    APPEAL for HELP

I need volunteers to help on Saturday with all sorts.

Can some mums or dads PLEASE make some flap-jacks, cakes etc. for the food table...we will have loads of riders and spectators who are bound to need sustenance.

Can I have some volunteers to run a BBQ ..we have burgers and sausages and buns which need cooking. Someone to look after the till...someone to do drinks.

Can I have 6 volunteers at least to help erect the Marquee.....preferably FRIDAY evening around 6pm latest as we will lose the light if we don't start then. Sat morning is cutting it too fine.

Please mail me at geoff@cashwell.com if you can help.

if you have a gas BBQ to loan for the afternoon that would be wonderful.

Most of all I need all you fixed wheel riders to sign up and race. This is the LAST track event in the country and part of the National Short Track Series as well as our CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Be there for 12.30 to 1.00pm as racing starts at 2.00pm

Looking forward to a wonderful end to this brilliant club and track cycling season.

    Kind regards

    Geoff
  • What a brilliant day! Makes you proud to be part of something so good.
Well done to all who made it possible. And big thanks.
  • Just to Echo what Robbie has just said. We all really enjoyed the afternoon so a big thank you to all involved in the organising. Just sorry I did not get to try Daniels fruit cake.

    Stuart
  • A big well done and thanks to Max, Sandra, Geoff and everyone else who put in so much effort. Not to forget Phil 'Duffers' Adams on the microphone.

Don't worry Stu, I've saved some cake for you for tomorrow! Here's to an 11am start tomorrow and those flights of stairs to run up.
  • a fantastic afternoon of racing, brilliantly organised and delivered perfectly! Thank you so much to all involved, Henry & I had a great afternoon. Especially Andrew for helping Henry & I with his gear selection.

I have taken a few photos (c300!!!) where is the best place to store them so you can all have a look and take copies????

I also still have a load from our trip to Newport.
  • What a wonderfully successful festival of grass track racing.....well done all you super racers, organisers and cheering spectators for making this such a terrific afternoon on a most superb grass track surface.......way better than my lawn!

    Duffers!
  • Best to put the photos on something like picassa and post the link here.
  • Thanks again to Geoff, Max and everyone else who helped out. Both our boys had a fantastic time & Iain enjoyed a moment of kamikaze madness (I think he called it glory) overtaking Andrew Leverton on the back straight for a few seconds before his legs blew up!!

It was a great decision to create an Under 8's competition since it meant the little ones had a chance to enjoy the racing. I'm sure it created a few headaches to fit it all in / rearrange prizes etc but it was very much appreciated by all the parents I spoke to.

We're lucky to have such a great facility and such dedicated organisers. Well done!

So I think if you want to see the photos you follow this link, it will ask you to join my group and I will let you in and away you go :-) I tried to get one of everybody but if I did miss you, I do apologise.

NB - for obvious reasons I have tried to make this as secure as possible so if you can't print or send to yourself, let me know. However, I believe as a Group member you will be able to most things.

    :-)

also they are a bit out of order now as well??
  • N.B. A comment from Max this morning in the aftermath of Saturday's event was "52 riders in total which is very rewarding. The only downside was that it shows that we really need about 20 extra bikes."

So please see this post and then please "Like" this Facebook page, and spread the word as far and wide as you can.

  • Well reminded Mark - it would be good to lobby for Isla to keep producing track bikes.

Another option for events could be to collaborate with other grass track clubs. The guy who was commissaire on Saturday said he could have brought 20 bikes with him if he'd known we were short. Might be a cheaper option for the club if we only need a large number of bikes a few times a year.

That said, the way the Thursday sessions are going we might well need a few more Isla bikes for regular use.

  • Excellent photos, Tim - thanks.

  • Hi Mark

new to this obviously. How is the position worked out when the points are the same? Is there some sort of count back?

    Stuart
  • Stuart,

Not sure, you would need to check with Max. I suspect you just have to be better looking or something.

    Mark.
  • I would agree with Mark W's explanation, obviously ;)

But if it's not based on looks, the positions might have been determined by the fastest time in the TT, which would match what is done at elite/world level.

    Mark F
  • Sorry chaps you must both be wrong!!!

I beleive i beat mark by 0.25 of a second in the TT and as for looks....well!!!!! (even with my black eye)
