Safety and Group Riding

edited September 2012 in General
Please all riders carefully consider attending the session Tim is kindly running Saturday morning - See sticky above

Group riding is exhilarating and sociable and a major plus of being in a cycling club, but it requires certain riding skills and knowledge and can of course be dangerous if riders collide and dont know how to respond. the grass track is the perfect place to learn and practise, no traffic or distractions.

as the club gets bigger we have more and bigger group rides, and less experienced riders, so inevitably the chance of an incident goes up. i'm aware of 4 incidents this year where riders have come off or collided on club runs, there may well be more. anything we can do to reduce these incidents or make sure people can react appropriately has to be worthwhile. as you may be aware a cambridge rider was tragically killed on a club run on a road we regularly use near ashwell earlier this year.

2 hours on saturday will be fun and should help you enjoy and contribute to group riding much more on all your future rides, and maybe save you from a nasty off / road rash or worse. if you are going to attend just make a note on the sticky or whisper tim or me so we know numbers.

thanks
