Cyclo-Cross League Round 3 at Hog Hill
Hi all,
Last Saturday was round 3 of the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League held in the sun at Hog Hill. The organisers had devised a devilishly twisty turny course that finished up with a spiral that you went in clockwise and were then thrown out anti-clockwise. It was not to my taste but some found it fun.
This season I have stepped back down to the Vets aged 45+ after a season with the Elite Vets. There's not much difference as the winner of all the rounds so far this season is 60+, retired and trains every day and sometimes twice a day! The standard gets higher and tougher every year. I ended up 25th and Stuart Field was 35th. Jackie was 1st Vet woman and 6th overall. Stevie was second vet and 9th.
James Fraser was 9th in the U12's and best U10 again. Noah was 28th in the youth race.
There was a high quality senior field. Cameron had a great start but shipped his chain allowing Theo to get ahead of him. After a hard chase, Cameron got ahead again and finished 2nd Junior and 17th overall with Theo one place back in 3rd/18th. Bryn had his best race of the season and came in 51st out of 73 starters. Daniel finished in 65th. Jon had to pull out due to suffering with a cold.
We were second best club on the day and are now up to 4th in the club league table. Not bad considering it's only in the last couple of seasons we have managed to score regularly in the club positions.
Mark.

Tough course, indeed Hoggenburg has a reputation for being better suited to mountain bikes.
Great photos, thanks.
