Eastern Cyclocross League Round 5 at Welwyn, October 6th
Welwyn Wheelers lay out a great course in Stanborough Park and the simple addition of a PA system really helped with calling racers to the line and allowing the very excellent Chief Commisaire to make her clear and succinct starters speech.
CCA was represented by no less than 18 riders, 2/3 of which were competing with at least another family member. There were, 2 Dyce, 2 Greens, 2 Skeldings, 2 Doncasters, 2 Wyers (officiating) and 4 whole Fields!
Some great results which meant we were 2nd team on the day and now third club in the league.
Senior race
3 Theo Doncaster, junior
18 Jon Chapman, junior
21 Craig Dyce, vet
48 Bryn Davies, junior (puncture)
55 Daniel Doncaster, old
Women
5 Jackie Field (2nd Vet Woman)
Vet
28 Phil Keen
30 Stuart Field
47 Tim Skelding
Youth (U14/U16)
20 Henry Skelding
23 Noah Field
31 Lottie Dyce
Youth (U12)
6 James Fraser
19 Adam Lightfoot
25 Daniel Green
36 Felix Field
42 Archie Bracewell
44 Ethan Green
The course was mainly on a grassy bank with unlikely boggy bits and of course some fun gradients. There were also wooded sections and a couple of killer climbs, one on lose gravel. It was perhaps the adverse camber switch backs which were the most troublesome. A great course to race though.
Brilliant to see so many CCA riders racing. The most senior Skelding riding did complain of shoulder ache afterwards but betrayed an inclination to do more cycloscross it hard to do only one race!
Theo rode well (even leading at the start), sadly I was at the tail end of the same race so only caught glimpses of the cat and mouse action playing out for 2nd and third place (in fact I almost crashed because I wasnt looking where I was going!)
Once again the support team was superb; from active spectators to stalwart pit crew. Thank you.
