Easter Cyclocross League round 12 - Broome Heath

edited December 2012 in Road Racing
There were 18 from CCA racing at Broome Heath Cyclocross on Sunday, including Katie Allerton riding her debut Cyclocross race. Broome Heath is a tough course, however one of the very best in the excellent Eastern League, so congratulations to Katie and welcome to cyclocross. A good support crew, as always, so thanks to them.

The course was very nearly identical to last year, I think just an extra pair of switchbacks on the heath section. The course features a fast running large open ‘arena section’, a short steep (possible) climb, a root ridden heath section (hard to stay on) and heart stopping drop to the base of another steep climb (did anyone ride this, I always had to push the last bit), a sandbank, a wooded section and some open heath grassland. It was surprisingly dry and firm and the bikes stayed quite clean and, unlike last year, no blizzard!

Looks like Felix had a bad day, but generally good results for CCA. We were third club on the day and are ranked 3rd in the League.

  • Ha, great photo, obviously a jedi Dyce.

Great result folks and looked amazingly un muddy.
  • Great shots Mark.

It was a great morning. Can see why this course was voted the riders fav last year. Really good conditions and a bit of everything. Nice HQ as well

In answer to some of Daniels questions.

Felix was a DNS. Had a cold all week and not feeling too good.

The steep bank. Yes rideable but depended on other riders. Also when us olduns done it in the morning the sun was shining directly down the bank so difficult to see the line.

Jackie picked up the cash for first lady Vet as the winning Vet was 2nd overall. (She was 4th place overall in the womens race)

I had a fall and lost a chain (Felix said I was lucky to find it!!) took about 1.30 to get back on so ended up getting lapped. Don't think my points would have counted anyway. That's X!!

Also about 10 degrees warmer than last year.
