Bury X (snow the new Muc off)

edited January 2013 in Road Racing
Despite the snow on the ground it was a good turn out for the final Eastern Cross league at Bury St Edmunds. Apart from the usual problem with blocked off residential roads leading to the school the journey was very straight forward.

CCA were well represented again and were hoping to hold on to the 3rd place in the club competition. West Suffolk Wheelers were only a few points behind and this was their home event. Sadly they just pipped us by 6 points by getting maximum points. They were not particularly well represented across the categories but they got a 2nd in the vets and a 2nd and 4th place in the U12 which gave them the overall win.

We should not feel bad about this as we were a comfotable 4th which was up 4 places from last year and 11 places from the year before. So hopefully next year top 3.

This was my first and only race last year which I did on a mountain bike so was looking forward to having a go on a proper CX bike. Because of the conditions it was a very different expirience but still good fun. I think for safety reasons the course had changed and last years cambers were replaced with climbs straight up the banking and a tricky rooty section was removed.
I would thoroughly recommend racing in the snow and as far as I could see there were surprisingly few crashes.

The results for CCA were as follows

Women
Jackie Field 6th Overall 2nd Vet
Anna Fraser 12th 5th Vet
Stevie Wyer 17th 9th Vet

Vets
Craig Dyce 8th
Stuart Field 21st
Mark Wyer 25th

U12
Adam Lightfoot 5th
Helena Dyce 13th
Mark Lightfoot 20th
James Fraser DNF

Youth
Noah and Gareth DNS

The final league results

CCA 4th Team

Jackie Field 2nd Vet
Theo Doncaster 2nd Junior
James Fraser 2nd U10

Final result of the day - No bikes to clean as the snow did it for us.

Unfortunately the result of this little tussle did not change by the end but a close race throughout
