Halfords Easter Bike Club - bike maintenance workshops for kids

edited March 2013 in Youth
This looks like a useful (free!) opportunity for our youngest members to learn the basics of looking after their bikes over Easter. I’ve checked that the Cambridge & Letchworth Halfords stores are taking part in the scheme:

"Taking place each Wednesday over Easter, the workhops will start at 10am, available at 423 Halfords stores.

Each hour-long workshop will aim to teach 8-10 year olds the rudiments of looking after their bike, from a tutorial and demonstration on how to fix punctures and re-attaching a bike chain to how to adjust both handle bars and the saddle height. There will also be a drawing competition with a chance to win a bike worth up £250.”

Halfords CSR manager, Emma Thomas said: "Last year's Olympic and Tour De France successes introduced a whole new generation to cycling. We are keen to build on that. The bike workshops are aimed to be fun and interactive. They provide a great starting point for kids and even parents to go back home and try out what they have learned together on their own bikes."

  • The first of these two sessions in Cambridge was held this morning and it was very good. I believe there are still two places left for next Wednesday's session so get in quick if you have a 8-10 year old who would like to start learning how bikes work.

There are places still showing at Letchworth for next Wednesday's too.
